June Buggie Rants About PETA!
MEOW! My name is June Buggie, and I have something to say!
Dear PETA, what in the WORLD are you thinking?
I guess it isn’t enough that you use cheap tricks like getting famous people to pose nude and making fun of fat women on billboards in order to get your message across. Now you’ve decided that you’re going to launch a pornography web site in December to help you spread the message about the cruelty of factory farms and to promote vegetarianism.
Really? Porn promotes animal rights? Yeah…. sure it does!
On your web site you say that you use “controversial tactics” and nudity because it gets you free publicity to your cause. Granted, you’re right about that.
But mostly it makes you look like you’re a big joke. Which wouldn’t be so bad except when you look stupid, you make the Animal Rights Movement look stupid. HISSSSSSS!!!!!!!
And why are you always dissing women anyway? Don’t you know that women vote in greater numbers than men? Women are the primary shopper for pets? Women are the primary rescuers of animals? One would think that in light of this one would reach out to women to ensure their cooperation and support of your organization.
Instead you’re offering free pornography, and overwhelmingly pornography is viewed by men. And, interestingly enough, more so by men with conservative political leanings. This is not the way to secure a base of support or reach out to others who may otherwise support your cause.
But it does get you alot of affluent white kids to engage in activities that HURT the movement. You know, like dumping paint on furs. Yeah, I see that tactic has been REALLY effective.
The debasement of women does not help shut down puppy mills. It doesn’t address the pet over-population or unacceptable euthanasia rates. It doesn’t stop dogfighting, pet theft, or the sale of pets to research laboratories.
In fact, the only thing it REALLY seems to do is get attention for PETA.
So, what is it you’re supposedly doing for animals? Cuz I don’t see it happening.
MEOW!

November 2, 2011 at 1:20 AM
I haven’t been following PETA’s activities lately and I guess I won’t be. This is really out of line. A porn site????? June Buggie, glad you’re keeping us informed.
November 2, 2011 at 3:42 AM
I know Bongo. How does help our brothers and sisters? *sigh* -JB
November 2, 2011 at 1:51 AM
Hi June Buggie! *waves at him* Yes, I’m not sure if PETA is doing truly for animal right. A few years ago, they did a campaign in the
very centre of Tokyo in our country which were some beautiful girls wearing bikini made of Lettuce.
They were dancing with the costumes on the street…hmmm…it was a bit strange to us…of course, we want animal right but…Woof.
November 2, 2011 at 3:41 AM
Are you kidding me? Lettuce? -JB
November 2, 2011 at 4:53 AM
No, I’m not! The catchphrase of the campaign was “Let’s become vegetarians!”
November 2, 2011 at 5:31 AM
Well I guess they can’t say “Let’s Be Stupid” because they already are. -JB
November 2, 2011 at 2:18 AM
I couldn’t agree more, June!
November 2, 2011 at 3:39 AM
Meow! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 2:37 AM
I’m with you. PETA are a joke. What about being people for the ethical treatment of people?
Keep up the good and real work, June Buggie.
November 2, 2011 at 3:38 AM
I’m trying. Wish more humans were cooperating here.
November 2, 2011 at 2:55 AM
With you 100% on this one, June Buggie.
November 2, 2011 at 3:35 AM
Meow! Thanks! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 3:42 AM
PETA have never made much sense to me. I prefer smaller orgs. I think they do more good.
November 2, 2011 at 3:49 AM
Except smaller groups lack the clout to get people motivated to pass legislation. And while so many people are for smaller government, the TRUTH is the laws surrounding the care of animals are so lenient that many
Puppy Mill operators are repeat offenders.
November 2, 2011 at 4:13 AM
I could be being rather comtentious myself, but I have always felt some of these large well organised animal rights groups have a secret agenda! Otherwise why would they do things like release 6000 mink into the wild, which then go on to wreak havoc on wildlife and the environment? At best their intentions were misguided! I don’t know PETA, but maybe their public profile has become more important than what they do!
November 2, 2011 at 4:23 AM
I think you may be right. -JB
November 2, 2011 at 4:24 AM
Great rant there June Buggie!
We agree with you, they’ve always been a bit not right..

November 2, 2011 at 4:56 AM
Thanks. And again, I wouldn’t care WHAT PETA did if it wasn’t for the fact that they are turning people AWAY from helping us animals. THAT makes me VERY mad!!! HISSSSSSS!!!!!! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 4:51 AM
I didn’t know about this June Buggie. The tall person told me that he remembers when Oxfam moved away from depicting starving children in their fundraising to pictures of the positive things that people’s contributions can make. The message was much more respectful to people affected by disasters and poverty and much more effective as it promoted positive change. It makes you wonder who advises on PETA’s marketing.
November 2, 2011 at 4:58 AM
Good point Bassa! When people are over-loaded with tragic info, we tend to tune it out. That doesn’t help you raise money for your cause or convince people to follow you. Neither does nudity.
November 2, 2011 at 5:41 AM
PETA aren’t so huge in Australia, but if they spent as much time, money and effort into support real causes instead of doing magazine ads then perhaps we would see a difference in the rates and level of animal cruelty. High profile stunts only seem to earn them derision from the average Joe, perhaps they need to get back to the grass roots of animal welfare.
Just my two cents worth
November 2, 2011 at 5:48 AM
Sometimes I wonder who they REALLY work for. Doesn’t seem to be for animals.
November 2, 2011 at 6:43 AM
June Buggie, great that you direct our attention to the seemingly bogus – maybe even harmful – activity of PETA (and, by association, many other such organizations). I guess it is all in OUR hands, as no organization, regardless of its size, seems to be able to really help animals in true need. Most of what they do is talk-talk-talk, create websites, even more websites, become present here and there, raise some funds to cover office expenses, save one animal, talk-talk-talk, maybe let’s go facebook? …. Sad but true but… many humans seem to be only able to harm and abuse (or “just” neglect) one another. How could they not do that to animals if that is what they’ve been socialized to?
November 2, 2011 at 7:55 AM
Many humans DO love animals (read Dear DeDe from Sunday). But we have to turn off the crap and then collectively decide a realistic course of action to take to make positive changes. That takes leadership. Which right now we don’t have.
November 2, 2011 at 7:36 AM
I am totally in agreement with you June Buggie xxx
November 2, 2011 at 7:53 AM
Meow! Thanks Charlie! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 7:38 AM
They don’t appear to have exerted much attention to factory farms thus far. If they’re concerned they’d be easier to believe if there was a precedent involving some attempts to get the word out.
November 2, 2011 at 7:53 AM
Agreed Jules. Dancing in the streets of Tokyo in lettuce bikinis isn’t getting the message out for sure!
November 2, 2011 at 7:50 AM
Thank you Junebuggie for an excellent rant on a group that really needs to reassess its mission &its methods
November 2, 2011 at 7:56 AM
Thanks for educating me June Buggie. I don’t really follow PETA’s activities as I seem them more of a lobby group than an a vehicle for real change. Like you said, it seems they are more about bringing attention to themselves than to the plight of the animals they claim to care so much about. Good for you to speak up about this.
November 2, 2011 at 1:03 PM
Thanks Sheri! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 8:32 AM
I SO agree with you about PETA… Many years ago when they furst started they were GRRREAT… butt NOW have gotten CRAZY. Too bad they had to go an ruin a Good thingy. SHEESH
November 2, 2011 at 1:19 PM
We will have to start our own good thong I guess
November 2, 2011 at 8:42 AM
Unbelieveable. How can anyone with two working brain cells think this is a good strategy?
November 2, 2011 at 1:20 PM
Meow! Ya got me!!! I’m a car and I think it’s stupid. -JB
November 2, 2011 at 8:44 AM
OMG – who are these people? Pornography? Misogyny?
We don’t know much about PETA but it does sound bizarre in the least.
Thanks for educating us June Buggie.
November 2, 2011 at 8:46 AM
PS: great point about women being primary animal carers and consumers… yep – they really need to alienate women like a hole in the head.
November 2, 2011 at 1:23 PM
I agree. Meow
November 2, 2011 at 1:22 PM
Just doing my job! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 8:58 AM
You are so right, JB. Stunts are never an effective way of getting a message across. In this age of dime-a-dozen scandals and short attention spans, it is the stunt that gets a spot in the news, and the message gets only a fleeting mention.
November 2, 2011 at 1:24 PM
Right on! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 9:54 AM
Hi June Buggie! Thanks so much for bringing this to all of us…I had no idea they were diving off the deep end again! This is just horrible on so many levels!
Love,
Payton
November 2, 2011 at 1:25 PM
It is ridiculous! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 9:55 AM

We oughtta pee on the pee-da!
November 2, 2011 at 9:58 AM
I use to like PETA, but they have gotten to radical even for me.
November 2, 2011 at 1:27 PM
Meow!!! Me too! And who is more liberal than a dog? -Rumpy
November 2, 2011 at 11:49 AM
SAY WHAT?!? I think a certain organization has lost sight of their original message and mission:(
November 2, 2011 at 1:28 PM
A have to agree. -JB
November 2, 2011 at 11:55 AM
Both PETA and HSUS do a lot more to hurt animal and pet related movements than they do to help them. Both are in full support of BSL, which should be a major indication that their political stance does NOT correspond with the stance of true animal lovers. I have never supported either organization, and will continue to speak out against them to those people I know who do support them- most of the time, these people have no idea what the actual political agenda of these organizations is.
November 2, 2011 at 1:31 PM
I didn’t know that about BSL. That’s just silly. It promotes ownership of the breeds by people that don’t know how to properly care for them.
November 2, 2011 at 12:58 PM
strange people – do they have a PR-art-director, who came from a former job in the flesh business?
November 2, 2011 at 2:04 PM
don’t even getz uz started on peta. they iz bad, bad people. they iz being investigated by da fbi, atf, and other agenciez because they makez terroristic threatz
November 2, 2011 at 2:30 PM
That’s bad!!!!!
November 2, 2011 at 3:19 PM
June Buggie, when we first read your post, we couldn’t even leave a comment. We left the room to think about why PETA would do this?! We sure don’t have an answer, and you are so right that they are not helping any of the necessary issues/causes they should, and are supposed to be addressing!
Thank you for your post to let everyone know! x Berner Girls
November 2, 2011 at 3:40 PM
I didn’t believe it when I first heard it either. That’s why I did the links to encourage folks to do their own research.
November 2, 2011 at 4:15 PM
Whoa! this is ridiculous! The West Coast Dogs appreciate your rant, BAD PETA you are a bunch of stupid heads!
November 2, 2011 at 5:31 PM
Meow! Thanks West Coast Dogs! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 4:23 PM
What marketing genius thought that would be an effective strategy?
November 2, 2011 at 5:32 PM
I wonder this myself! -JB
November 2, 2011 at 6:01 PM
Perhaps if they put some clothes on, their brains would be work?
November 2, 2011 at 6:03 PM
OOOPsie, perhaps if they put some clothes on their brains would be able to work
November 2, 2011 at 6:34 PM
I have concerns about who they really represent. Are they really so foolish? But then, many humans are. -JB
November 2, 2011 at 6:24 PM
You go, June Buggie! Shame on these PETA people. They don’t have the sense of a kitten.
November 2, 2011 at 6:32 PM
No kidding! Even dogs think they are off course. -JB
November 5, 2011 at 6:26 AM
June looks like my Tangy… I hear you June and agree with your points.
I’ve been out of the loop with power outages and conferences… now catching up on comments. TY!
November 5, 2011 at 5:56 PM
We’re glad you got your power back. I bet that stunk!!!
November 5, 2011 at 10:08 PM
Bully or Kitty or Doggie,
Anyway, great rant Junebuggy. i have often wondered whay good these people do. As you say, I don’t see the saved animals to start with. if they really want attention they should try a grassroots protest movement similar to OWS. They should get people involved in public activities that reflect well on teh organization and the animal rights movement in general. They would get alot more attention and donations if they would display live healthy adorable animals. Perhaps a traveling petting zoo. people are sickened by pictures of mutilated animal and theywill refuse to think about it. if you show the cute living animals, people will form a bond with them quickly and be moved to help. porn huh? I can’t think of anything worse. What a shame that an organization of such potential has made such poor decisions.
November 5, 2011 at 11:02 PM
You got that right Angry Man! But instead of the petting zoo, I’ll try some blogging.
November 6, 2011 at 1:28 PM
Because I’m an animal lover, when I was in law school the animal rights professor asked me why I was not studying animal rights law. I told her it was because PETA had totally alienated me. I grew up on a farm, I know critters better than any of them ever will. I don’t humanize my critters, I understand they are who and what they are so they’re happy I accept them rather than them accepting me. I also understand that a working dog is a happy dog .
Not only that, so many animal rights organizations are on the wrong track.
That being said, if it was my dog that had been abused and killed in D.C. by that whacked out cop, I’d be figuring out a way to file a lawsuit against him and the city that would make them think twice about abusing animals. What kind of psychopathic freak was he? I freakin’ despise people who abuse animals.
I also think PETA has done more harm than good to the animal rights field. Just as some other brain-dead, but well meaning organizations.
November 6, 2011 at 2:34 PM
I like the way you think! -JB
