A Poem for Autumn

Autumn’s in the air,

leaves are turning brown.

Squirrels are gathering nuts.

birds are heading down

to now-warm southern countries.

Bears will soon be sleeping.

Days are getting shorter.

Cold air comes a’ creeping.

Yard Spiders! EEK!!!!

But happy is the dog

that smells fall in the air.

Our coats are thick and warm.

We run without a care.

The smells are fresh and new!

We chase squirrels up the trees.

We smile, those crisp, cool mornings,

and jump in piles of leaves.

Watching for Autumn!

Welcome cooler mornings!

Welcome cooler days!

Summer’s finally over,

and Arctic Dogs say YAY!!!

YAY for Fall!!!

  2. Our dogs just love it when the cooler weather comes, we live in Portugal so even the winter isn’t too cold but it’s cold enough for the dogs to have away days over the hills and far away.

  6. Yay, Rumpy… However, down here in Australia we are heading into the warmer months of Spring and Summer… ‘Sweetie’ is losing coat by the handfuls and preparing to be a ‘hot’ dog… Enjoy the cooler months… :)

  14. That is a very sweet poem. This month chinese people celebrate the mid autumn festival on full moon day. It will be the perfect poem to recite on that night, while we sip on wine, eat mooncakes and gaze at the moon.

  24. Autumn is my favorite time of year. I can go out on my trails anytime instead of waiting until it’s almost dark and cooler. I wish I had some leaves to jump in though. That sounds fun. Great poem, Rumpy.

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.

You can contact me at rumpydog@hotmail.com.
