Pets Need Friends Too!
Oh Dog! Dear DeDe here! I hope you’ve had a lovely weekend and are gearing up for an action-packed week at the workplace!
Often when humans are asked what they love about sharing their lives with animals, they talk about how much they get from the relationship. But we have needs too, ya know!
We need companionship.
You know how we love to play with you? We like to play with others too. Like when June Buggie sits in the bedroom and yowls until another cat comes to see what’s wrong, and is rewarded with a WHAP! on the head!
We get jealous too. Rumpy gets really jealous when I leave pee mail for the dog next door. But I can’t help myself; he’s so dreamy!
So even though you’d really like to think you can meet all your pet’s needs, there is much to be gained from allowing them companionship with others.
How about considering introducing another pet into your home?
Pets Add Life is a campaign that educates humans about the joys of pet ownership. Check out their website and learn about the many benefits of introducing animal companions into your life, and into your pet’s life!
Now why is my nose so itchy? What? RUMPY! I’LL GET YOU FOR THIS!!!!

YAY! Thanks!

Hey Rumpy, Jet here. Hi Miss Jen.
We agree. Mom began with one feline. When he crossed over, she adopted Puffy and Fluffy and saw the enjoyment they brought to each other. Mom noticed how I brought out the spunk in Koko when I joined the family and how sad I was as an only K9. Little Miss Happy Happy brought joy back into the pack when she joined us last December…
Great post.

When Rumpy came to Jen’s house, he stayed outside while she tried to find his owners. Her inside dogs played with him when they came out to exercise. But Rumpy wanted to be inside with them; he didn’t like being outside alone. And he won!

Interesting! Will totally check the site out!

Your mustache looks good – I like bearded girls ;o) Thanks for the link – it’s a great site – we can learn a lot ;o)

*wink wink*

We agree DeDe, that’s the reason we adopted Dottie. We wanted Boomer to have a friend when we had to be gone for work or whatever.
November 25, 2012 at 8:16 AM
Sometimes people think animals don’t get along, but we desire companionship!
November 25, 2012 at 7:49 AM
Couldn’t agree more, especially if you can’t be with them yourself for most of the time
November 25, 2012 at 8:16 AM
Yeah, and Jen isn’t with us sometimes when she IS with us!
November 25, 2012 at 7:50 AM
What a fantastic post!
November 25, 2012 at 8:16 AM
Thanks so much!
November 25, 2012 at 8:00 AM
Having only one pet in a house is just plain cruel! We have three felines and we are not convinced that is enough. They do entertain each other especially at 3 a.m. when we are trying not to be available!
November 25, 2012 at 8:18 AM
In some cases, like with people who are retired or are homebound, one pet is all that can be managed. But the human is almost always there. But Jen is gone alot, and for one animal to live with her would be unkind.

PEE MAIL!! OMGoodness DeDe. That’s a naughty name for it! You are so funny!
Love and licks,

Where’d you get that glorious mustache, DeDe?
November 25, 2012 at 8:43 AM
Some of Rumpy’s shenanigans!
November 25, 2012 at 8:59 AM
Hi Dear DeDe! Today’s post educated me and mom very much because now we’re struggling for Shiro and Chibi….they haven’t got along yet but we believe that someday they think that they need each other as cat’s companionship! We believe that!
November 25, 2012 at 9:19 AM
Kevin, not every animal gets along. But don’t give up on them just yet.
November 25, 2012 at 9:05 AM
MOL! DeDe you say it as it is!!!
November 25, 2012 at 9:18 AM
I’m sure Austin agrees. He’s collected a family of his own!
November 25, 2012 at 9:12 AM
Wishing you all a wonderful coming week also
Love Sue

Hope you do as well Sue!

Mom and Dad have always had a multi furfamily. But I am still pretty scared, and I was afraid of the other cats at my shelter. But, they sure would like me to have a sibling! Thank you Miss DeDe for your post. Paw pats, Savannah
November 25, 2012 at 9:17 AM
I hope one day you’re ready Savannah. I think you’ll really thrive with a furry family member.
November 25, 2012 at 9:27 AM
Poor June Buggie – getting a wolloping just for wanting attention. Companions are, however, important. A single pet, left alone all day, would definitely become miserable.
November 25, 2012 at 9:30 AM
Oh no, he’s the one doing the whapping!
November 25, 2012 at 10:39 AM
Great website……..and super information DeDe! You are SO wise (and you look cute in your mustache!!).

Loved all your family photos especially the stache!
November 25, 2012 at 12:42 PM
I wish I had a puppy friend to live with all the time! Mom says one day, but not yet. My kitties are so lucky to have each other!
November 25, 2012 at 2:06 PM
there was a time we had only one “pet” … now (and for many (many) years now) it seems normal to have a few (never less than 3) dogs, and a few more cats (we’re at 6, and holding)
November 25, 2012 at 2:27 PM
Mollie would be lost without Alfie, they have a real special friendship. Loving the tash..LOL XX00XX

We’re not sure yet about adding another furriend to the house (it’s a very small cottage) so Mom & I joined a Doggie Social Club and i get to got to hikes and playdays and stuff with my furriends there…and maybe one day soon Mom will get me a brofur or sisfur
November 25, 2012 at 3:06 PM
Hahahah… That made me laugh, DeDe…
Another pet just isn’t a wise thing to do just now…. However, that doesn’t mean that it ‘won’t’ happen..!

I agree with you.
Reading your post makes me feel even worse for not getting another dog. I want to move and besides the many buildings in NYC that do not allow dogs, there some that will only allow one dog and/or limit the weight. When i find an apartment, I can go from there.
November 25, 2012 at 5:39 PM
It would be boring with no one to play with especially when their humans are out and about somewhere. Years ago, our vet advised us to get another kitten as the one we had just adopted would need the company. I’m glad we did. I do think they enjoyed having someone to play with – besides us.
November 25, 2012 at 8:04 PM
Great post. I love the comment on June Buggie. So made e laugh. Nick used to take on my other cat, Sebastian, even though he knew he would pay for it in the end. Never stopped him from stirring up trouble though. These silly cats of ours.
Glad you brought attention to Pet’s Add Life.

Hee, hee, hee! When the Girl went away to collich, the mom got me my very own pet kitty, Mica Minnie Moo, so I would have someone to play with when the Girl was gone.

Lol…Rumpy! Fancy leaving peemail!! Gnawti gnawti boy
And Jane buggie…well! Whacking concerned kitties over the head is not entirely the kindest way to deal with things now is it? lol
