An Odoriferous Intimate Encounter

It was just one of those things.

He had just been released following his neuter surgery.

She was waiting to be called back for her cat to be checked.

from the Denver Post

They met in the lobby of a vet clinic (from the Denver Post)

From across the lobby, their eyes met.

He wagged his tail.

She smiled.

He came to her. She run her fingers through his fur.

It was love at first sight

It was love at first sight (from the Augusta Chronicle)

He peed on her shoe.

.

.

And moments later, he was gone.

But she still has the memories, and a shoe that smells like urine.

.

So…. any of ya know how to get that smell out of a leather shoe?

  2. Well, it was hilarious, but no fun to wear those shoes anymore! I wish I knew a trick for that, sorry.

  3. I don’t know if it would be any good on leather, but we picked up a tip from Bruce Fogle we used when we were house-training the boys; use white malt vinegar to neutralize the smell of pee. And it does work! (Apparently vodka or methylated spirits work too.)

  4. Life must have its symmetry. Pee on the other shoe.

  5. Hehehe. Whee shouldn’t laugh but! ;)

Our Mummy uses white spirit to get rid of the smell, or febreeze spray if you have some. Also washing up liquid with a strong smell can be very good if you are dealing with something delicate, or dyed.

    Hope the shoes survive

  6. I think vinegar would take the smell out! When Nikita was a puppy, she would get so excited when she saw the UPS guy at our house that she would always pee on the floor. It was funny until I had to clean it up.

  7. I have no idea, but I love this post!

  8. Sorry I’m laughing but Jake peed on my NEW shoes last fall. They were a synthetic fabric so I could wash them and it worked. At least I can’t smell it. Maybe Nature’s Miracle? You are special!

  9. Oh no! Dogs are so funny and they don’t even know it. :D Will Febreze work?

  10. Isaiah's Mom Says:

Reminds me of the time I picked up a cat I had years ago named Morris from his neuter and once he got home, the last thing he ever sprayed, was my leg and I had shorts on!!

  11. I think that’s a really nice souvenir… why she wants to remove it?
Now she has a signed shoe, that’s stylish ;o)

  12. Not exactly the happy ending I was hoping for…..

  13. I think hiking the smell off works real well. And make sure there is hiking through a river.

Well….in Japan it’s said that ” alum water” works to get the smell of ammonia away. We can get the alum at the supermarket or pharmacy.
All we need is just to add some water to alum, so it’s not so difficult to make, mom hasn’t have any opportunity to use it though…

I was thinking Nature’s Miracle. Also, when you want to get the stale smells out of a refrigerator, there are ideas like a pan of clean kitty litter, baking soda or charcoal briquets. Worth a try? Good luck!

  16. Cute story. :) I bet that peeing on it again would work best and makes the leather softer. xD I can see though why Jen wouldn’t like that. Vinegar sounds good, or maybe lemon juice, it smells better than vinegar and is used to remove odours as well. But I don’t know what it might do to leather. Another thing she could try is cleaning solvent.

  17. Roxy the Traveling Dog Says:

    Hee-hee, that’s tragically funny!

  18. You could try a paste of baking soda and vinegar smeared on then brushed off when dry then lay them out in the sun…

  19. Lol… oh no! I’ve been peed on before too. Unfortunately I don’t have any good tricks or tips for removing the smell.

  20. Too bad they weren’t canvas, you could have run them through the wash. I learned the hard way!

  21. HAHA awesome xD

  22. Brin once vomited in my slipper :-(

Pee on leather is a toughie. I’d wash both shoes, and dry them with newspaper stuffed in them to hold their shape. Then shoe polish – and hope for the best x.

  23. I think I go with the pee on the other one lobby. At least you’ll have symmetry :)

  24. We’re not laffin’ really…nope…..Mom had a kitty that pooped in her Dad’s shoes once!

  25. Chalk the shoes up to the love of dogs.

  26. Yikes… I would wash them in the washingmachine on 30 degrees woolwash. Good luck :)

  27. We were going to suggest vinegar OR a new pair of shoes:)

Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning

  28. Pack the shoe with bicarb soda to absorb the smell :)

  29. Hi I have nominated you for the The Dragon’s Loyalty Award, which you highly deserve! details to be found here :http://willowdot21.wordpress.com/2013/03/19/the-dragons-loyalty-award/ love for now willow. xxxxx

  30. I can hear the background music playing as we speak. :-) wag wag

  31. Oh dear (mustn’t laugh), do hope you manage it. Now, if it was cat pee, we’d suggest you threw them out right now ;-)

  32. yeah, “yard shoes” now …

  33. Vinegar soak inside and out (both in case they shrink a bit or fade), saddle soap wash, silicone waterproofing. Trust me.

  34. Hydrogen peroxide, tomato juice, baking soda and Dawn. Oh wait, that’s for skunk spray. And it doesn’t even work that well. But then at least Jen’s shoe would smell like tomato instead of pee!
Maybe just time and fresh air will do the trick if all else fails?
    Good luck!

  35. Ha! ha! ha! me can’t stops giggling!
    Kisses
    Nellie
