Animal Cruelty Near My Own Hometown…..

Moulton is a small town of 3,000 people located in northern Alabama. It’s less than an hour from the town where I grew up. The people are friendly, church-going conservatives. And it’s the home to horrific animal cruelty. . Meet Carolyn Atchison. For a decade, she contracted with Lawrence County, Alabama, to operate the holding facility for … Continue reading

Why I Suck at Outdoor Photography

Ever wonder why most of the photos of Rumpy are taken inside? Simple: I suck at outdoor photography. Of course, it would help if I had a better camera, but I don’t. So this is what happens when I take photos outside.

Are We Animal Lovers? Or Users of Animals?

When I began writing about animal welfare issues, I naively thought that what was missing in the community was a lack of focused leadership, and that if only more people knew the truth about the plight of many animals around the world, we could join together and make positive changes. Oh, what a fool I … Continue reading

Companion Animal Care in the UK: PDSA Animal Wellbeing Report 2013

Yesterday I ran across the 2013 People’s Dispensary for Sick Animals’ Animal Wellbeing Report. This report looks at the state of pet care in the United Kingdom. PDSA annually surveys companion animal caregivers, children aged 10-16, and veterinary professionals, to measure the well-being of cats, dogs, and rabbits. The UK’s Animal Welfare Act 2006 spelled out 5 … Continue reading

Kids (and Pets) in Hot Cars- The Preventable Tragedy

Today is Heat Stroke Prevention Day. It’s designed to remind people of the danger of leaving children in cars. I know, we talk this subject to death. And yet death is the result for 19 kids so far this year. The adults responsible include a hospital CEO and a foster father. And who knows HOW many … Continue reading

Rumpy Dog

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.

You can contact me at rumpydog@hotmail.com.
