DeDe’s Counting Down to Christmas!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , on October 28, 2012 by rumpydog

Oh Dog! Sunday’s here, so it’s time for another visit with your Dear DeDe! That’s me!

No dog is happier than me!

;

OK, I know what you’re thinking. DeDe, it isn’t even Halloween yet. Why are you talking about Christmas?

I thought you’d ask that.

Last year we ran a weekly segment of “Letters to Santa.” Dogs and cats sent us their letters to Santa Paws, and we published them right here for Santa to read. Kind of a one-stop shopping thing for the Old Red Human.

We’ve decided to try it again this year. So this is what I need you to do.

Start working on your letter to Santa. Then email it to me at rumpysanta at gmail dot com (I have to spell it out like that so keep the spam down).

There are ground rules. I understand we all want world peace and all dogs and cats to be saved. But Santa can only do so much. So don’t expect those letters to be posted here. I want happy, funny, creative letters!

I don’t guarantee your letter will be published, but I will guarantee we’ll get ya in the holiday spirit.

Well…… what are you waiting for? You got letters to write!

PS: If you don’t celebrate Santa and have a letter to someone else you’d like to write, please send those too.

Seasons Greetings to All of Our Friends!!!!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , on December 24, 2011 by rumpydog

With baking, and buying, and wrapping, and mailing,
it’s easy to miss what the Season is saying.
Money and pretties are nice, I hear,
but what I want is your love throughout the year.

Thank you for all of your kind words and wishes.
Thanks for the laughter and ‘fake air kisses.’
Cookies and toys make me smile for y’all,
But intangibles are the best gifts of all.

Advice From Dear DeDe!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , , on November 27, 2011 by rumpydog

Hello everybody! It’s me- Dear DeDe!!!

Today we have a letter from a dog seeking advice:

Dear DeDe:

I am sad. I thought the holidays were supposed to be a time of love and joy, but it appears to be anything but. Traffic is worse. People aren’t nice in stores. And the worst? The people that say mean things. See, we’re not Christians, yet my Facebook feed is filled with these posts about I’m not saying Happy Holidays- I’m saying Christmas! It really hurts my feelings because I feel so left out! If this is a time to celebrate peace on Earth and goodwill toward men, then why are so many people so mean?

Confused and Sad

Dear Confused and Sad:

I think humans that are insistent that no one step on their own rights don’t always stop to consider the fact that they may be hurting others.

The truth is that while not only Christians celebrate Christmas, it is a Christian holiday. But there are also other holidays celebrated around this time, such as Kwanzaa (Dec. 26- Jan 1), Winter Solstice (Dec 22) and Hanukkah (December 20-28). There are others who do not celebrate any holiday at this time of year.

As for your dilemma, I wish I had an answer for you, but there is nothing I can suggest; humans are sometimes unthinking, but I don’t think they purposely mean to leave you out.

I hope you will choose to instead focus on the things that DO make this season nice.

Love, DeDe

Letters to Santa!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 11, 2011 by rumpydog

Oh Dog! Today is Veteran’s Day here in the US.  So if you are a veteran, thank you for your service.  Jen is a big NPR fan, and we hear many stories about your bravery and your families’ sacrifices.  You’d be hard-pressed to find people out here in the civilian world that are as brave and as caring as you men and women- and dogs too!  You ROCK!

You know how we thank our veterans here in the US?  That’s right!  We go shopping!  Lots of Veteran’s Day sales to get you into the holiday spending spirit.  I dunno, but somehow that doesn’t seem an adequate thank you to a vet. *scratches head*

Speaking of the holidays, today is week one of our letters to Santa!  And boy, do we have some good ones for you!  But first, I have an axe to grind with a certain mail order catalog company.  They sent a catalog to my home, and THIS was on the back cover:

Who thought THIS would make a great holiday gift?

I hope Santa leaves a lump of coal in the stocking of everyone that thought THIS would make a great holiday gift! pffffttttt!!!!!

As promised, we’re featuring letters written by you to Santa.  Here’s the first- it comes all the way from Germany!  Grammy has an interesting holiday request.  I don’t know that I like it, but Jen thinks it’s a GREAT idea!

This ist my first letter to you! I’m so excited and first of all I’d like to say: You’re doing a great job.  Mommie isn’t that big with Christmas but this year I’d like to change it. So it would be very kind of you to bring over a Christmas Tree, where all cats, dogs and humans who live in this house can sit together on Christmas eve.

As I’m a spoiled Shih Tzu (that’s what mommie says;-))) I’d like to have some new clothes for the winter. Something that keeps me warm.  And there is something really important for me. I know everybody likes white Christmas and we had that the last years. I hate snow, it is so cold. Uh!!!! Maybe we could have green Christmas this year???

For all who want to know how we celebrate in Germany: Christmas eve is the evening where you get all your presents. The “Christkind” brings them. We have two days off from work, I know in the US there is just one day. So we can celebrate three days where you visit all your family or go to church.

Love, Grammy – little Shih Tzu from Oberhausen (Germany)

Isn’t that sweet?  I hope you get your new clothes my friend!

Our next letter comes from Canada!  Bigfoot has a cool way of writing a letter to Santa- in limerick form!  Check it out!

Dear Santa Claus,

Hi Santa, I’m Bigfoot the Cat,
I hope that you’ll come where I’m at,
It sure would be nice,
If you brought me some mice,
I’d be very happy with that.
.
I saw some neat things at the store,
So maybe I’ll ask you for more,
I really would like,
A small pussy cat bike,
Or is that too much of a chore?
.
As a cat I am not very needy,
And I don’t want you thinking me greedy,
I’m not asking for silk,
Just a saucer of milk,
Now that would be great. Yes, indeedy.
.
There’s a gimmick I wanted to mention,
Now that I have your attention,
It’s called Catnip in Bed,
And it fits on your head,
I think it’s a recent invention.
.
Now, your patience I’ve put to the test,
I’ve asked much, so I’m just like the rest,
But, since I was a kitten,
I’ve always been smitten,
By you, Santa Claus, you’re the best.
.
Your friend,
Bigfoot.

Oh Dog!  That is PAWSOME!!!  Santa is so totally gonna love your letter!

Don’t forget to send YOUR letters to Santa to me at rumparoni@gmail.com and we’ll post them on Fridays.  woo woo woo!!!!

A New Friday Feature!!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , on November 4, 2011 by rumpydog

Oh Dog! I have a big announcement and I am SO excited!

The holidays are coming!

Now I know what you US readers are thinking- “But Rumpy, Thanksgiving isn’t here yet!” I know, but I am so excited!

So to share the excitement, we’re going to talk Christmas on Fridays! And you can help!

How?

Send me your letters to Santa and I’ll publish them here!

Now with all due respect, please save the tear-jerker letters. We’d ALL like for all animals to have a forever home and world peace and all that. But let’s face it, there’s PLENTY of places to get your fix for emotional overload in the world, especially this time of year.

I simply want to create a space where we can be happy and enjoy the holidays without expectations or feelings of dread or that our celebration just “isn’t quite good enough.”

And because this is an inclusive blog (and it’s MY blog so I can be if I want to!), we’d also like to learn about other holiday celebrations. So if you want to write a piece about celebrations in your culture, we’d love to hear about it.

Speaking of Celebrations, the Santa Paws Drive has chosen the recipients of its Holiday Toy Drive for this year! To find out the winners, click HERE to visit their website.

They are now accepting donations of cat toys, dog toys, and cash! How cool is that! For info on how to donate, click HERE.

And be sure to check out their blog for some profiles of the agencies they’re supporting this year.

So, funny, sincere or downright silly, send your letters to Santa c/o Rumpy T. Drummond at rumparoni@gmail.com. I can promise you Santa will see them. Why? Well, I can’t reveal my source just yet, but trust me on this one!

Ho Ho Ho!!!!
