PetSmart Toys R Us Pets Collection

So I was contacted by Allison Macalik and asked if I would be willing to review some of the new dog toys being introduced by PetSmart. And I said sure!

I was sent a selection of toys from their new Toys R Us Pets Collection.

The toys I was sent were cute, but not the kind of toys Jen would typically choose for me.

I destroyed the Vinyl Tire and Rope Animal right away.  SCORE! The Pets Patterned Body Canvas Caterpillar was not far behind.

Gone in 30 minutes!

When I posted the news on Twitter, I was sent a different toy- the Double Loop Tennis Ball/ Tug Rope Toy.

So, did I like the toys?  Well, to be honest, yes.

The Pets Dumbell Treat was a favorite, especially when Jen put kibble inside.

But the cloth squeaky toys? I loved them, but Jen would never buy those for me. In addition to being impractical (as in quickly destroyed), they are unsafe. I almost ate one of the squeakers.  If you DO let your dogs play with toys like these, they should always be supervised.

Surprisingly, this was my favorite.

This is the Wacky Water Bottle Cruncher. And this pic was taken last night, two weeks after I got the toy. Notice that I haven’t torn the ears off or the eyeballs.  Here’s a video of me playing with the bottle cover toy.

.

The plastic bottle inside can be replaced (I’ve already replaced once), and the cover can be washed. As you can see, this toy is ready for that.

The ball/rope toy is durable, and I enjoy playing catch with it. Jen tried to video me, but that didn’t work too good. Kinda hard for humans to video and play at the same time.

So the toys are going to be in PetSmart soon. Check them out!

June Buggie Rants!

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , , , , , , on November 9, 2011 by rumpydog

Meow! My name is June Buggie and I have something to say.

So you got SO excited because PetSmart was fundraising for its charity yesterday. Well La De Da! And what a coincidence, here it is right before holiday shopping ramps up. Lots of goodwill toward their company was created.

Well let’s talk about these mega-pet stores for a minute. Why do you support them? Because they don’t sell dogs and cats but instead allow rescue groups to have adoption events in their stores? That’s great!

But they DO sell animals, and lots of them- everything from birds and fish to small rodents and reptiles. And along with those animals they make lots of money on cages, bedding, food and toys.

Do you know where those animals come from?

The Humane Society of the US posted an article this past September that addresses how many of these animals sold in the US are bred in mills just like puppy mills. Born Free USA posted links to newspaper articles detailing birds that were rescued from breeder mills.

The irony is that while rescues make hay of how great PetSmart is, they continue to turn their backs on Petland franchises that allow rescued animals to be adopted through their stores.

Funny, I don’t see the difference.

Don’t get me wrong, I do NOT want to see the mega-stores going back to selling dogs or cats. But what I WOULD like is to see them stop selling ALL animals.

So while you berate people for shopping at pet stores that support the indiscriminate breeding of animals, ask yourself, am I doing the same thing?

MEOW!
