Ellie: We truly believe that you protect what you love. We hope by introducing people to different animals, from reptiles to mammals to birds that they will fall in love with the amazing diversity of our animal world. We want to inspire people get outside and enjoy nature and protect our animal friends’ precious habitats.

Rumpy: An admirable aim, my friends!

Edmond: We are diligently working on a series of children’s books. Each book will focus on an endangered species.

Rumpy:  Wow! I can hardly wait! Tell us about your family.

Ellie: We live at Ellie and Edmond headquarters with our photographer and IT guy and a cat named Moe. Moe used to try and eat us, but we’ve made peace by moving to a higher shelf.  Hehehe!

Uh oh! Moe looks alot like June Buggie!

Ellie: We love to go on bike rides, play dominoes and read.  I love to draw and have been practicing loads. Edmond comes up with fun cartoon ideas for me all the time. I dream of being a ballerina one day and Edmond would love to find four tap horse shoes so he can tap his way to stardom.

Rumpy: Oh I know you would be the bestest dancers ever! Now, tell everyone more about your blog!

Edmond: We go on adventures everyday to a new habitat to meet an animal. There’s Mammal Monday, Reptilian Tuesday, Watery Wednesday & Feathery Friday! Super Surprise Thursday use to feature a surprise adventure, but we have changed it. Now we’ll give you a small picture and a few clues and you’ll have to guess the animal.

Posted in June Buggie Rants! with tags , , , , on June 1, 2012 by rumpydog

MEOW! My name is June Buggie, and I have something to say.

June is Keep Wildlife in the Wild Month with Bornfree USA! Here’s a video of CEO Will Travers to tell you more about it.

;

It’s time to pass legislation in ALL 50 STATES that prevents people from owning and breeding wild animals.

It’s time to set Tony the Tiger free from his concrete cage at a truck stop in Lousiana (check out this propaganda site set up by his “owners”.)

It’s time to stop the decimation of the habitat of wild creatures.

And it’s time to end the trophy hunting of these animals.

So…. what can YOU do to help?

How about have some fun with BornFree USA?

Bid on or donate items (or both) in the auction!

Enter the Wildlife Photo Contest!

Kids 18 and younger can enter the Inaugural Essay Contest!

And of course, don’t forget to check out the action alerts to make the public aware of the plight of wild animals in the world today.

Cuz while depending on you humans for our well-being was not our first choice, it’s the only choice we’ve got for now. So…. get to work already!

June Buggie’s Taking a Walk on the Wild Side

Posted in pets with tags , , , , , , on March 13, 2012 by rumpydog

Meow! My name is June Buggie and I have something to say.

You humans have a problem, especially your kids, and it’s called Nature Deficit Disorder.

What is Nature Deficit Disorder?  It’s a term coined by Richard Louv in his book Last Child in the Woods.  Louv shows that humans are tied to nature, and require contact with the natural world in order for children to develop into both physically and emotionally healthy adults.  He asserts that children who don’t have sufficient contact with the natural world and who are not able to adapt to our high-tech, indoor world are more likely to suffer from  obesity, attention disorders, and depression.

A study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 8- to 18-year-olds spend more than 53 hours a week using entertainment media (TV, computer, etc.).

Now I know what you’re thinking.  What does this have to do with animals, June Buggie?

enjoying some outdoor time

Kids who don’t have regular contact with nature don’t have a concept of animals being free in nature.  A disconnect with nature could lead to further destruction of the few places left where animals can live in the wild.

Kids who don’t have regular contact with the natural world will be more accepting of livestock animals living in cruel, cramped conditions.  How many of you know what kind of conditions pigs and chickens live in?

Kids who never experience the wonder of insects will not understand the valuable role they play in the ecosystem, and will instead think that all bugs should be killed with pesticides.

Let’s consider that Nature had a reason for creating the living things that inhabit the Earth and knows more than humans about what this world needs.

So how about teaching your children a healthy respect for the natural world by experiencing it firsthand, not just by watching it on TV.

Ellie:  Hi! I’m Ellie the Elephant!

Edmond:  And I’m Edmond the Horse! We’re best friends!

Ellie:  We love animals and teaching people all about animals! We love going on adventures all around the world and in our home town Atlanta!

Edmond: I’m very silly. I love to dance and use puns! I do most of our research and come up with great ideas. I also have a small apple obsession.

on a shelf full of touch items at a local nature center

Ellie: I’m the serious one and an excellent artist. I do most of our writing. I’m afraid of bugs too!

Ellie and Edmond:  We are currently working on a series of children’s books about endangered species & we have an iPad app about animal in the works! We just saw the first mock-ups:)!!

Rumpy: Oh Dog! That is so awesome!  So tell us about the rest of your family!

Ellie and Edmond:  We have a great photographer and stylist. Ellie met her in 1995 and Edmond joined us in 2002. We started traveling with her all over the world and that’s where our love for adventure started.  We also live with a cat, his name is Moe. He tries to eat us, so we stay out of his way!

Moe, the cat we live with

Rumpy:  Uh oh! He sounds alot like June Buggie! He even LOOKS like June Buggie!  *shivers*  Well, let’s talk of other things.  Tell us about your blog!

Ellie and Edmond:  It’s called The Adventures of Ellie and Edmond! We post an animal a day during the week and each day has a theme- like Mammal Monday!

We also write about our adventures to places like museums, zoos, nature centers and parks! We also have a theme week and a craft each month! (March will be Backyard Animals and a Backyard Bingo game.)

Rumpy:  That’s so exciting! I love your blog!  So why do you write about that kinda stuff?

Ellie and Edmond:  We really want to get people excited about animals and nature!

Rumpy:  Wonderful! There seems to be a real disconnect between many people and the natural world.  So what other social media do you use?

with Giggy the dino

Ellie and Edmond:  We’re on Facebook at Ellie and Edmond and Twitter @EllieandEdmond

We post all kinds of stories, facts and photos on both! We also have 2 o’clock trivia questions everyday! If you answer correctly Edmond will tweet you a special photo [Symbol]!

Rumpy:  That’s awesome!  I hope many of the readers check you guys out!  Now, one more question, if you was a dinosaur, what kind would you be?

Ellie and Edmond:  We would both be a Gigantosaurus just like our pal Giggy A Dino from Fernbank Natural History Museum! Giggy looks like T-Rex and he knows how to party!

Rumpy:  Fantastic! Well guys, thanks so much for being my guests today.  And thanks for educating humans about wildlife and nature!
