Tiny Timmy is Asking for Help!

Last year I posted some information from my friend, Tiny Timmy, about his trip to Washington, D.C.. There his human and others met with EPA officials to discuss the dangers of certain chemicals that are legally used and sold in over-the-counter flea and tick killers.

Timmy naps in a box

As I’ve told you before, these products contain pyrethroids, which are potentially toxic to cats. Tiny Timmy is a cat that suffered neurological damage due to exposure to these chemicals. Oliver is a cat that died from exposure.  Every year THOUSANDS of animals are harmed or are killed due to exposure to these chemicals, and yet they continue to be legally sold in products you can buy in all sorts of stores.

This year Tiny Timmy is again headed to D.C. to talk with EPA officials. To pay for the trip, he’s holding an online auction on Facebook.   There’s some really cool stuff up for bids, and many of the items include free shipping!

This is Tiny Timmy

If you’d prefer to make a monetary donation, you can do so through the Chip-In account set up by Timmy.  Of if you have airmiles you could donate, please contact Timmy by posting on his Facebook page- Tiny Timmy’s Healing Journey, or through Twitter at @TinyTimmySpeaks.

For more info, check out Timmy’s Blog Tiny Timmy’s Healing Journey.  Timmy also has an outreach project called Timmy Stones; check out their website too!

  9. I have a question. Is Permethrin one of the chemicals? Because it is one of the only ones that kills the fleas where I live. Our fleas have developed resistance to a lot of things because it’s a testing area. On the box I use, it says DO NOT USE ON CATS or other animals. Use only on dogs. Do not use on dogs that are groomed (licked) by a cat.

    • Yep that is one of ’em. But it has also been alleged to harm some dogs and human children.

      Posted by rumpydog | October 5, 2012, 9:55 AM
      • Fleas have gotten to be a major problem. (mild winters and developed resistance) But like anything the substances must be used with extreme caution and directions followed. Many people don’t read or don’t care or don’t understand, and aren’t trained in application.
I wish they would ban lawn companies using such chemicals. Most of the time people aren’t trained and will apply those despite wind or rain conditions. We lost our favorite Bouvier due to that – and I don’t want that stuff blowing on my yard, neighborhood kids, or me either any more!
Good cause Rumpy – headed to check out Timmy. Thanks for raising awareness

      • Added to the mix is the human mentality of if you don’t understand it, kill it.

      • What all has been lost from the stomp now examine later…..they found what they thought was a spider in central TX that was supposed to be extinct..ONE spider…so they killed it to check DNA – and yeah, it was…no more have been spotted.

      • Permethrin is one and it’s an endocrine disruptor, which means a tiny amount is more harmful to human and other mammals endocrine systems. It’s also the pesticide that left Timmy with neurological damage and nearly took his life. You can see safer alternatives on TT’s site http://www.tinytimmy.org/alternatives

  14. ditto on what cat forsley said.i can help timmy in about a week with $ and will be very happy to do it,i have to make a reminder note! question…can this chemical cause tumors or growths in cats throat? i have a new stray i tend to,he is so skinny like the black cat in coraline 😦 he can’t swallow even the pate style cat food. he visibly chokes on it. i tried mixing milk with a can of it till it was soupy thin and he can lick it up like any other cat,he just can’t swallow food stuffs. so anyways i thought of him(my female strays defer to him,so i think he’s a he)when i read your article. you are such a great soul rumpy dog♥ please continue to do your great work in this blog.
