It’s All About Choice

Oh Dog! Finding the right spot to pee is an art. A dog like me can’t just pee anywhere; there are certain places where I must leave my mark on posterity.

occasionally I have to let it be known this is MY AC unit

I have to leave a message for the other creatures that dare enter my territory.

The neighbor cat likes to mark his territory by spraying the edge of the storage building.

The neighbors’ cats like to come into our yard. Each morning I have to figure out where they’ve been, what they’ve done, and let them know I’m not amused.

This Meyer Lemon tree-to-be is a favorite spot to let ‘er rip!

And then there are the squirrels. They love to gather acorns, and sometimes they come down to the ground to check things out. They must also be warned.

The neighbor cats also like to hang out here under the grapevine. Slackers!

These are my mandatory pee stations. Β Where’s yours?

  1. Sometimes that turf must simply be marked.

  2. I’m a girl Rumpy, so I just really squat anywhere πŸ™‚ xx00xx

  3. Indeed.
    Love your new blog look, Rumpy…. Reddish/Orange on black… classy… ‘
As for where I like to pee… I really have to walk the ‘whole’ backyard before squatting… after all, it’s a girl’s prerogative..!

  4. We only have designated spots… our litter boxes.

  5. You know what makes us NUTS Rumpy?? Our neighbor cats!! There are at least four of them…that we know of…and THEY mark every single one of our trees and bushes. Yep, that’s right. We don’t like it at ALL. xoxo Chloe and LadyBug

  6. Over the top of where ever my sister goes so my mark is the last one πŸ™‚

  9. While we can always go out the back, we only get to go into our front garden when Mumma and Bubba come home, so Bella sometimes does pee near the tree and I always do a nice big long pee right at the front fence. Just so that all the doggies who walk past know – even if they can’t see us! Woo woo, Beary x

  10. for my cats? The litterbox! Haha.

    Posted by Dianda | October 25, 2012, 5:17 AM
  11. Well of course I use my litterbox when I’m inside BUT when outside I have some “must mark” spots like under the azaleas, on the holly tree and the A/C compressor. Why there? That’s where the wandering neighborhood cats pee – it’s like a game – you pee/I pee/you pee/I pee…but after all – it’s MY yard!!!!!!

  12. I am a girl doggie so I just go where ever I happen to be. Some of the boy kitties do spay where ever they want to leave their calling card. It is always somewhere different to make sure their smell is everywhere. Have a wonderful Thursday.

  14. On the top of anything that any other animal has dared to leave in my garden.

  15. I see. It’s a full-time job for a dog. In our household — and I thank our lucky stars for this — it’s no big whoop. Twice a day, in the litterbox of choice. Easy peasy. Others are not so blessed, I am aware!

  16. Good job Rumpy!!! A well-marked AC is every dogs “must have” ;o)

  17. Don’t you know?: humans have e-mail; dogs have pee-mail! And me: I just have my litterbox, thankyouverymuch.

  18. Since Doggy got into “real state” he marks all buildings, he owns the city now.

  19. Preferably inside, but in an emergency, I guess an AC unit would do πŸ™‚

  20. This is Hitch. I normally go in the litterbox, except when the limbo cat goes outside, under the bathroom window. Then I have to go under the bathroom window, inside, cuz I’m not allowed out. This is MY house! and outside cat needs to be told. When I let huMom know it’s a problem, she scrubs the outside of the house. She’s a pretty good huMom.

  21. Funny! My dog Pierson is just now starting to hike his leg and it is so cute watching him learn which items are better to pee on. My dog Maya (girl) will pee anywhere but takes forever to find a place to poop. I know because I have to stand out there and watch her until she goes so I can pick it up before Pierson eats it. Yuck!

  22. Rumpy, we think that your yard is quite big!!! We’re jealous….of course we don’t want neighbor kitty to spray in our tiny yard though….

  23. I used to have a small terrier when I was a child. That dog peed on everything during walks. He must have had the biggest dog bladder in the world! Nothing escaped a few drops of “hi, how are ya” pee.

  24. You’ve got some pretty good spots! Cocco only goes in the same place too πŸ™‚

  25. Great topic! Everypawdy has to pee. Brin the Boxer will pee anywhere (never indoors of course), sometimes 12 pee’s on our evening walk!

Oh, and BTW, peeing on the lemon tree will make it fruit quicker πŸ™‚

  26. LOL! Hi Rumpy, I have 3 spots: one one each floor, I call them WC πŸ˜‰

  28. Note from the staff: Neighborhood and residential Fur People, we realize communication is important, but please avoid the current dueling on the left corner of the back door. We appreciate your attention in this matter. Thanks

  29. We are almost embarrassed to tell you this. BUT our MOm walks in the road most of the time so we don’t pee on our neighbor’s lawns. Well, a boy’s gotta do what a boy’s gotta do, so some of us occasionally do try to lift our leg on the tires of cars parked in the road – Mom gets so mortified!!!

  30. It’s a great Australian (& possibly elsewhere) tradition for the male of the species to pee on the backyard lemon tree… so your selection of the Meyer Lemon spot is natural πŸ™‚

  31. For a dog (and, perhaps, a cat) … it’s like Facebook.

  32. They had better not pee on my shoes.

  34. Hey Rumpy, Jet here.

As a fellow dude, I’ll share my tank emptying strategy with you. First, I load up on a bowlful of water. (Mom says I look like a lush!) Then, I visit the usual street sign polls, sniff out other critters who dare mark my turf and let them know Jet was HERE! In all, Mom says I empty my tank about 20 times per constitutional. She says I’m faking it sometimes because there cannot possibly be anything left in me!

  35. I know what you mean. The possums are the ones that contaminate our garden. The work they give Raffles & me.
At least now we have a new fence all the way around the fox doesn’t get through any more so that’s one job less.

  36. Hilarious! It really is such an art, choosing the right spot to pee.

  37. I like to pee on the grass in front of our house, but then it died and now my mom says I cannot pee there 😦

But sometimes she lets me pee on the grass in front of the neighbor’s house…only if they have been naughty πŸ™‚

  38. *whispers* In the whole garden. At first in the back garden, but now I’ve found a new spot in the front garden. Hey, Rumpy, don’t tell Granny, ok!
