MEOW! My name is June Buggie and I have something to say.
If you’re in New Orleans this weekend you can go to the Fairgrounds Race Course and Slots and watch zebra racing.
What kind of absurd nonsense is this?
Zebras are not domesticated animals. They panic in stressful situations, they react in unpredictable manners, and they have been known to attack humans. And yet these beautiful creatures are being put into this stressful situation to amuse humans.
And for what? So you can watch them be scared out of their wits?
I urge you to contact the race course and POLITELY voice your displeasure. You can do so at:
Tim Bryant, President, Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots tim.bryant@fgno.com
Eric Halstrom, Vice President and General Manager of Racing eric.halstrom@fgno.com
Also contact Loyola and Tulane Universities and tell them that by having their mascots at the race track that day they are condoning this abusive practice. You can tweet Tulane president Scott Cowan @TulaneScott. You can contact Loyola University president Kevin Wm. Wildes at pres@loyno.edu.
I get so frustrated with you humans and your asinine belief that you are the only creatures of importance on this planet. You won’t rest until you’ve either killed the rest of us off or made us as miserable as you are. I wish I could pee on the whole lot of ya.
MEOW!
I thinking peeing on people is a great way to show your displeasure and would love to join you in the notion!
Talk about mess up, just when they used to have kangaroos in boxing rings.
I’ll tweet them and Oprah too.
Well spoken, June Buggie. I agree totally.
MEOW!!!!
A very good post about animal cruelty! In Sweden I saw as well zebras used in a circus, poor animals! Gonna write a protest letter to the circus!
Thanks for stepping up for those poor creatures!
Disgusting! Mom has written to the president and vice-president of that race course. We know a lot about stress and fear around here.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
it’s not a nice feeling is it Cupcake?

June Buggie Gizmo & I are just as mad about this as you are…once again you prove that our anipals are much smarter than hoomins
When I saw the title of your post, I didn’t imagine for a moment that it was taking place in America!
In addition to the points you’ve made, those people in the photo are too heavy to be on a zebra’s back.
Hai June Buggie!!! *waving*
Oh no! What a sad story this is! Lokk at those zebra’s eyes….they look soo sad…..obviouslyit means they don’t wanna run for humans…..it’s very disgusting to see that humans use innocent animals for their pleasure….. 😦
I agree with you June Buggie… a zebra race is totally weird… and only for amusing people (and for money, I’ll bet)…what a mad world!!!
That is just NOT right.
Blessings,
Goose
I Just wrote both the turdy addresses Tim & Eric ………… ewwwwww

Love xx Cat xx
I never heard such a crazy thing! Thank you for bringing this to my attention. I will write a letter too.
This makes me sick! Tweeted and e-mailed. Tks for posting to raise awareness of this abuse of the zebras.
This makes me so sad June Buggie and ty for bring this cruel sport (pfft not a sport) to our attention. Zebra’s most certainly not breed to be ridden on let alone raced, makes my stomach churn and I’ve barfed up a furball and sent it with my proteste emails, xxx’s
Love NOLA, but Zebra racing REALLY? 😦
There is an annual camel race where I live, so zebras does not really surprise me – ha! Have a Great One:)
I come from South Africa, where it is still possible to see the beautiful Burchell’s zebra in the wild.
What a shame to see this happening in the name of fun 😦
Wow I didn’t even know this was happening. I think in schools theres should be another course every child has to take called animal welfare, perhaps more would learn something. Poor things
What in the world? I saw the title and was thinking maybe you had new toys or something.. I cannot believe this is even legal in the U.S. to race these wild creatures… mule racing is one thing and piggy racing is another but zebras? that’s like having emu racing.. I cannot believe that.. it’s a HUGE risk. Going to spread the word on fb and twitter about this get some help to stop it. Thank you for sharing.
I think they are insane
Oh goodness, I always thought Zebras were just horses wearing pajamas! This is terrible! I have never heard of this event, Just awful!
That’s a new one on me! Never heard of Zebra racing before…I wonder at the mentality of people sometimes!
as do I my friend….. *sigh*
*runs over, waves and drops off nomination form*
it reads:
Dear sweet rumpy,
you have been nominated for 3 blog awards.. please pick them up at http://peacelovenwhiskers.com/2013/01/10/good-things-come-in-3s/..
love,
plw =^..^=
Email sent. They also have ostrich racing too, which I added in the email for them to end as well. This is just plain wrong. Animals (especially exotic ones) should be protected and respected, not used for our entertainment and for us humans to bet on.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention June Buggie!
They also have this on their website: “Fans are invited to suggest names for the four racing zebras on the Fair Grounds Facebook page at facebook.com/FairGroundsRaceCourseandSlots. Those suggesting the winning names will receive free admission and recognition in that night’s track program.”
So everyone please also go to their Facebook page and request that no one participate in the naming of the racing zebras!
Tell it like it is June Buggie! I would have never thought that people would be racing zebras… really? wth…
Oh, June Buggie, I so agree with you. It seems like people getting really crazy these days… maybe it’s time to riding these kind of people and stess them out!
Why zebra racing, if you can use a horse? Zebra’s are wild animals. Not the kind of animals you put in a racing. 😦
I wasn’t expecting to read that this is happening in the US, June Buggie. Some people would do anything for novelty and amusement, huh? They must be living such boring, unhappy lives! Sheesh.
I would think there’d be some sort of protection for wild animals (as zebras undoubtedly are), though. This is sad and frustrating, but thanks for bringing it to our attention.
Careful… it could be mistaken for territory marking and then where would you be?
This is one of those times that I am embarrassed to be a human being. Shame on us.
I never knew about this Rumpy 😦
I thought this was just a catchy title, then this. Gad why are human beings so cruel and ignorant. Well off to tell them what I think.
Some days I am SO ashamed of humans. Today is one of those days. Sorry ani-pals!
Thank you so much for bringing this to our attention! I will make sure to voice my opinions to the parties mentioned above….this is just complete insanity! Why are humans so stupid?
