Oh Dog! DeDe here, back on my regular Sunday schedule. Hope your weekend is going slow.
I am very pleased to report that Jen has signed up to attend the Humane Lobby Day in Florida on March 26th. She will be joining other like-minded persons who believe animal welfare is an important issue that our elected officials should support.
The Humane Society of the United States arranges lobby days in every state in the US. Jen and I feel it’s important that we make our voices heard in the halls of our legislatures. If you’d like to know when Lobby Day is held in your state, click here. You can also find out information about what issues are hot in your state right now.
HSUS has a director in every state in the US. They monitor legislation and call constituents to action when there are bills affecting animals up for vote.
You can also find out how your state ranks against others in terms of animal welfare. Florida ranks #12 because we have some of the strongest animal fighting laws in the nation.
HSUS will also keep you up to date on federal legislation that could impact animals. For instance, HR 366 would make it a misdemeanor for knowingly attending an animal fighting event and bringing a child under 18 years old to such an event. We know that as long as there’s an audience for dog fights, there will be dog fights. But if we decrease the demand by making it illegal to attend, we’ll decrease dogfighting (and other animal fighting) significantly.
So put some action into your beliefs, and sign up to attend! It’s not as scary as you think (and if you are nervous, HSUS staff will go with you to talk to your elected officials), and you’ll be doing so much good for us!

And here’s your daily reminder to vote for Rumpy in the World Spay Day Pet Pageant. His competition is hovering close 1000 votes already! We have to work hard to catch up. Will you help? Click HERE to vote for Rumpy.
Darn it, it’s in Tallahassee?
For Florida, yes.
I’m in Jupiter. Sorry, too far for me. Have a safe trip!
Maybe next year you can attend! And letters and emails are also a good way to be proactive!
I hope so! I’ll be doing more this year for the furs.
Juju will hold me to that 🙂
You are doing great work! xx
I hope when we show others how it’s done, they will join us in our endeavors.
Mornin’, we just voted again. Mozie and Homer have their paws crossed for you.
YAY!!! Thanks Mozie and Homie! Homie! Homie!
Glad to know about this. Thank you!
I hope you can go in your state!
I’m going to try. 🙂
YAY!!!!
DeDe … Like you, I live in Florida. Would you talk to them about stiffening penalties and giving more prison time to those who abuse animals. Studies show that those who abuse animals also abuse humans. These human “animals” need to be taken off the streets for the protection of all of us. Think: Ted Bundy, who abused animals as a child and later became a serial killer.
I agree! But the more people that say that the more likely the message is heard. Please write your elected officials!
Hi Dear DeDe! *waving* The Humane Lobby Day in Florida on March 26th sounds interesting. We can’t wait for hearing the report of Jen!
Have a lovely Sunday DeDe! 🙂
And I can’t wait to read your post tomorrow!
Thank you for the ping back and for helping so many
you’re so welcome. Sorry i took so long!
You are very busy, that is so obvious 🙂 keep up the great work…We have packed three huge boxes for our donation to go out tomorrow.
This is indeed a very lazy sunday! Ready for nap now!
Thank you for taking an active step to support animal welfare for this country. How we treat members of animal and plant kingdom is a direct reflection of who we are as a species….we have a long way yet to go to get it right.
Safe travels to you…Thank you for sharing these blogs with us!!!!
That’s wonderful you’re going!! Thank you for the link so we could check our state!! xo
I am really rooting for you, Rumpy! If anyone deserves to win this pageant, it is you.
Your jen is a jewel…:)
Voted again Rumpy! You really deserve to win! Paws crossed! =^.^=
How awesome. I’m so happy for your mom.
We’re trying to help. But it’s Monday here – and you know how that goes! http://wp.me/p1m5Gv-19A
Nice post !!
UK 😦 xxx
Humane International may can connect you with similar groups in your country!
Good job, Jen! Our mom does a lot of things “behind the scenes”, which is kind of like when we hide under the table and shove a toy out for our brother to play with, but she doesn’t like to leave us so we don’t mind.
Way to go, Jen!
DeDe – legislation like this does help – give law enforcement a little more teeth ( and maybe breaks the “family oriented” entertainment concept. It is a difficult fight as some groups have grown up with this cruel tradition. Feathers or fur – the brutality must stop.
Thanks for going – everyone can email/write their own legislators…every voice helps!
