Today is National Feral Cat Day

Today is a day set aside by Alley Cat Allies to talk about the issue of homeless cats and let you know how you can get involved in helping these kitties.

Hissy Fit Jones and Little Girl, both 8 years old, were born to feral mothers. Hissy was at the vet yesterday getting annual shots. He also has an ear infection, so he’s getting drops in his ears twice a day.

You may recall I wrote about the issue of feral cats (The Neverending War on Homeless Cats) a little over a month ago. I discussed a recently published book written by Dr Peter Marra, Head of the Smithsonian Migratory Bird Center, in which he advocates for the mass killing of homeless cats to save birds from extinction.

The truth is that while in some communities women’s voices are shushed by men in power, most men and women are never going to allow this to happen because we are a powerful voting block and we overwhelmingly reject the idea of cat extermination.

Besides, there is already an excellent solution on the table, and has been for years. It’s called Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) and it has proven quite effective in areas where it’s put in to practice full-force.

If you want to help the homeless cats where you live, check out the National Feral Cat Day website for information on what you can do to make a difference.

  4. TNR is the only way to curb the overpopulation of homeless cats.

  5. TNR totally works. If only people like Peter Marra would get that through their think skulls.
