Welcome to our new feature: Hisses and Purrs!
Here June Buggie and Hissy Fit Jones will feature the good….. and the not-so-good, in animal welfare.
First off, a big hiss to Michigan governor Rick Snyder for signing into law SB 288, which prevents residents from advancing a ballot initiative to protect endangered wildlife, such as wolves.
A big hiss to Pakistan for electing Nawar Sharif. I hope that doesn’t mean there will be tigers on permanent display now in that country.
And a big hiss to Stuart Timothy Radbourne and Benjamin George Pethers of the UK, who were recently found guilty of damaging a badger sett (den). They were found in the area of the sett and one of the men’s dog emerged from a tunnel wearing a location collar and with injuries consistent with those caused by badger attack.
Purrs to the people of Australia! A 2009 survey conducted by the RSPCA found that 59% of shoppers felt animal welfare was an important factor when choosing food products in the supermarket.
Purrs to Tennessee governor Bill Haslam for vetoing the state’s Ag-gag bill. I’m sure the bill will come back next year, because the bill was supported by the Walking Horse industry as well as animal agriculture.
…….
What about you? Do you have any hisses or purrs to dole out? Post them in the comments and share with the rest of us!
what a great new feature 🙂
I have a purr for the turkish writer Buket Uzuner, he started a petition against a dolphinarium in Kas, Turkey for animal abuse and they were successful. The “show” is over now and the dolphinarium is closed. The two dolphins are now under “statutory protection” and I hope they will do the best for them.

Oh this is such a good idea! Love it! Purrs to June Buggie and Hissy Fit Jones for coming up with it 😉
Purrs for Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust’s “Toad Patrol” – helping the toads (and frogs and newts!) of Stroud’s Five Valleys cross busy main roads to get to their breeding ponds safely 😀
They should have a love button, not just a like. Whee LOVE this new feature.

Great new idea! my hissy is to the people up Far north Queensland who despite the desperate plight of the green sea turtle still think it’s their right to drive ATV’s across the sand and dunes where they lay eggs…big hiss also and a scratch for the person who poured kerosene on a family cat and set it alight today….i will get no solid sleep tonight …again..i am without words really. Bless those who care and the rest well pffftt ..
Very good, I like the purrs especially.
What a great idea. We’d second June Buggy’s purrs.
Snort oink – love the photo’s! Come on over and check out my blog in a few. I’m leaving you something there my friend. XOXO – Bacon
this is a GREAT new feature–concise and of huge interest to animal advocates. My huge hiss is the disassociation between the abomination of factory farms–and the consumer choice in the supermarket. I want to see photos of what’s really going on there in the meat case, fear crazed animals as opposed to “happy cows”–then maybe people would wake up, and stop buying this misery in a package–this moral failing of humankind on Styrofoam.
Well! That first kitty is definitely upset in the picture! Quite the look. 🙂
Wow! What a great new feature this is, June Buggie and Hissy!
My kitties brofurs purrrrr for all of you, your family and furpals, their humans who care about animal welfare!!!! 🙂
Pretty sure you will be on Letterman in no time – great idea.
Your posts always interest me, and your animals always keep me laughing.

Do you take woofs & growls too? Me is a SARDOG & I love to give some woofs & growls!
Hey June. Election’s not yet over here but I do hope it will be soon. We aren’t sure what to be happy about yet. I know the politicians have great platforms, but sometimes none of their promises get to be set in action. Let’s just hope this new batch takes action.
Thank you for dropping by

Like? I love this! Could be a whole blog dedicated to this alone………… but I like your entire blog 🙂
Purrs to my local animal hospital / rescue society, Southern Animal Foundation, for their continued fight for the welfare of animals in New Orleans and the surrounding area. They’ve been my vet for years now, and I’ve managed to refer several friends to them for help when money was tight or another vet was charging outlandish prices for something relatively simple. They’re non-profit, and use proceeds to from vet trips to help fund their animal rescues, spay/neuter clinics, and funding for the odd pet emergency. When Izzy hurt her paw last year just past closing time, they took my call and kept the shop open for me so I could rush her in, saving her from the stress of more travel with an injury, and me from the $$$ of an emergency vet. They’re just the nicest folks ever, and are saving dogs & kitties left and right around here! 🙂 http://southernanimalfoundation.org/
Oh, and another purr for SAF for letting me come in to play with their rescue kittens whenever I’m in the area. I’d take them all home if I could!
Hello! I could have sworn I’ve been to this site before but after checking through some of the
post I realized it’s new to me. Anyhow, I’m definitely glad I found it and I’ll be
book-marking and checking back frequently!
