Former feral Hissy Fit Jones is still, at heart, a homeless cat.
Here’s his “I don’t trust you” look
Though he’s been an inside only cat since about 4 months old (he’ll be 9 years come next spring), he never fully acclimated to the domestic lifestyle as did Little Girl who was also born to a feral mama.
Sweet little shy guy
Don’t get me wrong. He does love affection- on his terms. Those terms usually involve me lying down and his rooting some other cat out of the way so he can lie on top of me and let me scratch his head and neck. Oh, and his chin. He loves to have his chin scratched.
I don’t like you. Piss off.
But if I try to show a bit of affection to Mr. Hiss in the daytime, this is what I’ll see.
He’s gone like the wind.
Oh, my dear sweet Hissy Fit Jones. If only you’d trust me.

I must say our Marbles though never feral and almost 15 is the same..always on her terms..she will let you fawn all over her on the couch but many’s the time i have wished i had chainmail socks when walking around the house…she has what i call shitatude..i gave up years ago 😂
Posted by Fozziemum | December 4, 2016, 4:00 AMOuch! I’m glad I don’t have one like that! June Buggie is the worst but his attacks always come when I’m still.
Posted by rumpydog | December 4, 2016, 8:38 AMhw reminds me so much of Felix, the cat of my BFF… he had a feral soul for his whole life and I laughed when I saw that he bit all people who entered his territory… although I was the victim too…
Posted by easyweimaraner | December 4, 2016, 4:20 AMI once had a Doberman who would bite people when they left her territory, but that wasn’t as funny.
Posted by Charles Huss | December 4, 2016, 7:52 AMMy mom’s cat bites those who invade his personal space without his consent. My biters save their gnawing for me.
Posted by rumpydog | December 4, 2016, 8:39 AMyes, very much like glen frye, my rescue cat
Posted by ksbeth | December 4, 2016, 4:37 AMOh, and with a name like that you’d think he’d be a smooth crooner….
Posted by rumpydog | December 4, 2016, 8:39 AMYeah, I have one of those too. Even being besties with the other friendly cats didn’t convince Hazel to be nicer to people.
Posted by Kate Crimmins | December 4, 2016, 7:41 AMMy poor Lil’ Hiss- I just feel bad that he spends so much of his life in fear.
Posted by rumpydog | December 4, 2016, 8:40 AMOur cat Flash was a little like that. We named him Flash because if you tried to pet him he was gone in a Flash. Eventually he warmed up to me, and surprisingly my mother who came to visit for a few days once a year, but never my wife.
Posted by Charles Huss | December 4, 2016, 7:49 AMNow that is odd. Choosing a stranger over someone who is with you every day? Cats have their ways and we humans will never understand them.
Posted by rumpydog | December 4, 2016, 8:41 AMSo true. I think my mother’s mannerisms are calm and laid back, similar to mine, while my wife has a more forceful personality.
Posted by Charles Huss | December 4, 2016, 9:29 AMWhat a kid!
Posted by Roy Sexton (Reel Roy Reviews) | December 4, 2016, 10:09 AMSometimes I imagine he is what Harry Potter would be like were he a cat.
Posted by rumpydog | December 6, 2016, 3:07 AMOur Zoey is like that. After 8 years in the house, she still doesn’t totally trust anyone.
Posted by The Island Cats | December 4, 2016, 4:48 PMAh Zoe! But she trusts you will feed her and give her safe space, or else she would have booked out the door a long time ago.
Posted by rumpydog | December 6, 2016, 3:07 AMSuch an expressive face, I had one called Shadow because when you attempted to pet her all you saw was her shadow as she went under something or over something. She was never feral just full of cattitude, when she wanted petting she put your hand where she needed it when she was done if you liked your hand you removed it from her body quickly..
Posted by ravenhawks magazine | December 4, 2016, 5:12 PMHmmmmmm…… sounds like the red and white striped sleeves I’ve been known to wear on occasion…. on my skin! LOL
Posted by rumpydog | December 6, 2016, 3:06 AMI love hissy….this is wonderful!
Posted by murphysmission | December 4, 2016, 11:58 PMHissy Fit Jones is an enigma.
Posted by rumpydog | December 5, 2016, 4:19 AMKnow what you mean. We have an ex-ferral kitty who’s 10. He turned up starving and near to death. We fed him, he moved in and it took 3 months for him to allow us to touch him! He now adores love very much on his own terms and often will pretend not to know you run off in a panic 😉
Posted by Animalcouriers | December 5, 2016, 5:15 AMOh yeah, that’s just like HFJ! But who’s the first to turn up for treats? He waits patiently in his special spot for me to bring the container ’round.
Posted by rumpydog | December 6, 2016, 3:05 AMSome critters never adapt fully to being ‘rescued.’ As long as they are well cared for and happy, I guess the bottom line is that is the best you can hope for at any given time.
Posted by Tails Around the Ranch | December 5, 2016, 10:16 AMI guess you’re right. It’s not like he’s going anywhere without me.
Posted by rumpydog | December 5, 2016, 12:03 PMMee-you Hissy Fit Joness iss like mee…or mee iss like him!! ***nose rubsss*** Siddhartha Henry xxxx
Posted by Nylabluesmum | December 5, 2016, 1:20 PMI’m glad you’re no longer biting, Siddhartha Henry, Biting is not good. June Buggie bites me on the chin. He says he’s just trying to keep fleas off of me, but I don’t buy it.
Posted by rumpydog | December 6, 2016, 3:04 AMWhat is with the biting on the chin and nose and the totally innocent look as you are going OW! What was that for?My Whiskers bites me then pat my cheek after wards aaargh!
Posted by ravenhawks magazine | December 6, 2016, 9:51 AMMr. Hissy Fit Jones reminds me of Thanksgiving dinner with family members: everyone has that grandparent, parent, uncle, or aunt whom you’ll never change - especially if they’re in their later stages of life. Instead, we just continue loving them, passing the mashed potatoes, and not insisting on more than that. I’d say the same applies to Mr. Hissy Fit Jones: continue to love him, pass the metaphorical mashed potatoes, and not insist on more affection than what he gives. That’s what I also do with my good friend’s temperamental cat. 🙂
Posted by coreyquinlan | December 10, 2016, 7:34 AMThat sounds like how my family views me! 😂😂😂
Posted by rumpydog | December 10, 2016, 7:46 AMToo cute !
