Rumpy was an Alaskan Malamute living with us in the southeastern US. He started this cool blog in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible pet ownership. We have an opinionated human who speaks her mind sometimes. We also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at us and not melt, right?

Hey, lil’ Rumpkin! (Does Jenny ever call you that?) We’re so glad that Jenny found you and decided to share her home with you. You’re a really lucky dog!! We and our people used to have a very special grey tabby cat who lived with us. Her name was Jenny, too. And one of our favorite vets is called Jenny. That’s a lot of Jennys. We love that name and we love you, too. ❤

Posted by EvilPoet | September 19, 2011, 7:09 PMWow! You like me! That is way cool!
Posted by rumpydog | September 20, 2011, 1:31 PMHi Rumpy Dog! My husband had a dog just like you named Buck. He says he was the best dog he ever had. He didn’t like other daogs but loved cats. He would have loved to have a “Little Girl” all of his own. I’ll be back to visit again!
Posted by lovedreamcelebrate | September 20, 2011, 10:13 AMYou are pretty smart so I guess you figured out I meant dogs and not daogs!
Posted by lovedreamcelebrate | September 20, 2011, 10:15 AMOh wow! A dog like me? I bet he was just as awesome as I am. But I do like other dogs. I used to go to doggie daycare until my human took a big pay cut from her employer. Hopefully she will soon fine alternate employment so I can go again!
Posted by rumpydog | September 20, 2011, 1:34 PMI took my best friend, Lad, with me to Alaska and we had many adventures there together. After 16 years he could not walk any more, and it was one of the worst days in my life to have the vet come to our house to put him to sleep. His going is one reason I left Alaska. The place was not the same without him.
Posted by ofthehighest | September 20, 2011, 12:08 PMI understand. It’s very hard to say good-bye on our end too.
Posted by rumpydog | September 20, 2011, 1:32 PMHey there! Thanks for stopping by my blogging and “Liking” several of my posts!
I think I can say with absolute confidence that yours was the first comment I’ve received from canine…first non-human, actually.
Anyway, love the photo. Reminds me of a malamute I had as a pet for many wonderful years. Sigh. I miss him.
Posted by Fish & Bicycles | September 20, 2011, 6:33 PMYour blog and “about” is as cute as you, Rumpy! Send my regards to your mom, Jenny. Tell her that I so admire her good heart.
I’ll be keeping an eye on you from now on … and I just recommended you to a my friend/blogger whom you should meet. She loves animals as much as I do and she really fights for your rights.
Here’s here link just in case you want to take a peek at her stories with regard protecting and loving the animals: http://wordswithpurpose.wordpress.com/.
Posted by Sony Fugaban | September 20, 2011, 11:45 PMRumpy, you look like you could be a cousin to my sister’s boss Tristan. He came and rescued her (his human) when his previous human forgot how to have a proper interspecies relationship and has brought as much joy and wisdom to her life and, by extension, all of the family’s, as I gather you bring to your circle.
Keep up the good work!
Posted by kathryningrid | September 21, 2011, 1:19 PMThanks! And thanks for stopping by!

Posted by rumpydog | September 26, 2011, 6:46 PMRumpydog- how clever! My Rubydog now has inspiration!
Posted by lolabees | September 26, 2011, 10:06 PMHeeeey, Who’s a pretty dog? Huh? Who’s a pretty dog? Oh; What? Right then Mic; I’ll get right to it. Love your blog Rumpy Dog. My Polydactile cat “Mic” also known as “Mic the Un-cooperative” was cruising the net a few minutes ago and came on your picture. Now you might think that Mic might have been startled by that but not a bit………What? Oh, well alright. You talk and I’ll type. Would that suit better? (Sorry, first he said I should do the talking but I guess his Royal Highness has had a good belch or something and now wants to talk.)
So, go on then.
“My name is Mic
I like to sneak past.
Then jump from the shadows and bite Mark’s big a…..”
Now hold on there Gov, you can’t use that kind of language in front of the ladies you know. You’re going to have to keep it nice………..and clean…………and nice. Get it? (He’s not really so bad but he does tend to throw in the ocassional a-s or poop now and again. He’s only about 18 mos. old and you know how precocious boys can be at that age.) So are you going to talk to Rumpy Dog or are you just going to sit there primping all evening?
Hi Rumpy Dog. I’m Mic and I’ve got thumbs. I’m all black except for the white smiley face on my belly. I’ll send a picture soon so you can see how smart I look. I’m a Polydactile. That’s a genetic mutation of sorts that just pops up out the DNA pool and makes a great cat like me. My Mum was a Gray Tabby and my Dad was a fellow she met out on the stoop one night and invited in to sniff some Nip. She says he left shortly after and she hasn’t seen him since. Anyway, I can balance on the edge of a knife and I can use my thumbs like a human when I’m motivated. I’m usually pretty nice and I love my Dad. We have lots of fun together watching movies and eating his food, and chewing on his arm and when it’s real quiet at night, I like to pounce from the top of the door and land right on his belly and then bounce off and jump up on the head board where he can’ t see me. I’m telling you, the look on the poor guy’s face iiiiis priceless. Well, let’s see. We also live with my Mum, whose name is “Monkers”, my big brother, “Little”, my three big sisters, “Gert, Turtle and Lunchbox”, my little sister “Nu-Nu”, My Aunt Rosie, who is a giant red Pitbull who weighs about 100 pounds and our bestest old friend, Uncle “Buddy” who is a dog too. He’s all black just like me and Nu-Nu and he has long warm hair and he let’s us curl up and sleep with him….when he’s not too grumpy. H’s not so big as Rosie. About Cocker sized I guess and he and Rosie have been here since we were born. As soon as mum had us she let Rosie and Buddy into the box with us cause she knew they would love us like she did and boy was she right. They give us kisses and Rosie trys to keep us out of trouble by chasing us away from stuff she knows we’re not supposed to touch. She’s really funny and I know just what to do to get coming after me like I just set the house on fire or took a nugget of her prescious food or something really serious……………Usually I just sneak over near her bowl and pretend I’m going to steal a nugget of her prescious food. She snarls and growls and we run. then when she catches us she runs up behind us and nudges us with her big,and I do mean big wet nose.
Well, my mouth is tired and I see one of my sisters trying to take a nap soooo…….I better get over there and bite her head or jump on her or…….or…….maybe I’ll just lay down here against my dads leg and go….to….slee….p.
Mic! Hey Mic!……………………….Oh well. We’ll stop by again soon.Seems the lad’s down for the count. Oh yeh, I’m Mark. But….I’m just a human so you can’t expect much out of me. What? Rub the belly. Yeh Mic, I know.
Well so long
Posted by angrymanspeaks | September 28, 2011, 7:05 PMYour family sounds like great fun! I wish I had thumbs….. There’s so much I could do! Like fire my typist for starters.
Posted by rumpydog | September 28, 2011, 7:26 PMYeh, but he’s not a typist. Just an old hippie with a couple of extra thumbs he doesn’t know what to do with and a phobia of Spell Check. Yeh, just about the time his pointer hits the icon he starts “shakin’ and whinin’ like a dog passin’ peach seeds”. But he hsn’t been at this blogging thing for too long so. “God willin and the crik don’t rise he should get better Huh. And he talks about me. Always saying how I have the attenspanof gna….Hey. Look. a cricket…………..
Posted by angrymanspeaks | September 28, 2011, 8:32 PMROFL I was talking about ME firing MY typist! You better keep yours or people will think you’re the angry one.

Posted by Bites Of Sweet And Spice | September 30, 2011, 9:38 AMThanks! I’m glad you came by too!
Posted by rumpydog | September 30, 2011, 9:39 AMLove misplaced dog stories with happy endings. I’m one of those myself. Trying to convince my human that I want a puppy. I need someone to teach me how to play and my canine friend is old and not that interested in teaching me. Any advice for me on how I can learn to play?
Posted by teachlearnlaugh | October 2, 2011, 7:46 PMAnyone can learn to play! But can I tell you a secret? Humans like puppies because they’re cute but they’re also ALOT of work. Your human seems to have a pretty full plate and may not have time for training. But there are lots of rescue organizations out there that have dogs living in foster homes. These dogs are house-trained, socialized, and some even live with children!
AND these are animals that you know have had regular medical care and all vaccinations are up-to-date. It might be a better argument than a puppy.
Posted by rumpydog | October 2, 2011, 8:10 PMThanks for visiting my blog! 🙂

Thanks for visiting my blog - How way cool that you share your house with bunches of animals…..I’m an only-cat but I suppose that’s one of the BIGGEST reasons I’m so spoiled so who’s complaining?! I’ll make sure my human visits here often and it’s nice to meet you!

Posted by rumpydog | October 13, 2011, 7:42 AMWhat a great blog! Thanks for stopping by and “liking” one of my posts. I have three beautiful little dogs - Shih Tzus - named Ling Ling, Oreo, and Tilly Tot. I will be emailing a pic of them for your GOTCHA day (cute name).
Barbara Key’s story gave me an idea, which is to donate part of the money of the sales of my next e-book to rescue sites. I never thought of that. I am an ardent animal lover and would love to see all these little pet angels in distress get the help they need.
You sound like a great dog yourself and a good representative of rescue pets. Good boy!

Posted by rumpydog | January 31, 2012, 8:01 AMOh, crap. Open mouth, insert foot. Sorry… but I had a long-haired Malamute at one point, too… 😀
Posted by She speaks.... | January 31, 2012, 8:32 AMOh Dog,
Rumpy your posts bring me both joy and tears. My RainDog died some months ago and she did not have her own cat. Your Jenny is an angel. I think it’s no coincidence you found each other.

Posted by katia68 | February 21, 2012, 8:37 AMHoooOOOOOOWWWwwwwwwWWWLLLLLLLLoooooooooo Rumpydog! Greetings from the Europa Pack! And what a handsome creature you are too 😉
I think I might be falling for you Rumpydog 😉 🙂 OH WOLF!!!!! 😉 What am I saying! Me! 🙂 The Alpha Female of the Europa Pack falling tail over paw for an Alaskan Malamute!!! OH WOLF!! OH WOLF!! Well…it was Wolflightful to see you on my icy world of Europa…and it was good to see that you have Jenny under control 😉 You know what these human mum’s are like for thinking they’re in charge! The easiest solution is to take them to obedience training classes…lol…though amongst the pack we just give insubordinates a good hard shake and a full-fanged bite then floor them if they still don’t get the message lol 😉 but I think human mums need a slightly more gentle and subtle approach!! 😉
Tail wagging Wolfie licks and nuzzles 🙂

Posted by rumpydog | February 26, 2012, 6:16 AMhi Rumpy, thanks for liking my post. i didn’t know that you can read Vietnamese.
Posted by E. | February 27, 2012, 8:12 AMNo, but Google translate does!
Posted by rumpydog | February 27, 2012, 8:30 AMoh dear! just tried google translate. it completely ruined my writing.
Posted by E. | February 27, 2012, 8:51 AMOh no!! Then maybe I should reconsider my like?
Posted by rumpydog | February 27, 2012, 9:20 AMi think you should.
i’ll give you a brief understanding of what i wrote. i can’t do any decent translation of my Vietnamese writings into English. my English and my Vietnamese just don’t work that way.
in the post i wrote about how food can bring me such simple yet strong joy. the mud-like thing in the picture is a kind of dessert — chè — made from sesame and is one of my favourites. my friend brought back for me some from his trip to Hội An. receiving it reminded me of the snacks that my grandmother used to give me after she had been to the traditional medicine shop.
the title means “like in the old days with a flower dress and messy hair”.
now you can decide for yourself.
Posted by E. | February 27, 2012, 10:23 AMYou look like my Akita I used to have 🙂
Posted by originalapplejunkie | February 28, 2012, 2:18 PMHi there, Rumpy! I just wanted to let you know that I’ve awarded you the HUG Award. Posted by marucankissmyfurry... | March 3, 2012, 2:50 AMoh Dog! But I must say, that after my experiences with June Buggie, I’m not much on hugging cats. woo woo woo!
Posted by rumpydog | March 3, 2012, 7:23 AMIn hindsight, it seems like being seen hugging a dog might be bad for my reputation. (Or should that be HOUNDsight???)
Posted by marucankissmyfurry... | March 4, 2012, 4:36 AMHi, I’ve nominated you for the ABC award. Check for details here: http://wp.me/p1ZC80-H2

The Boxers are very excited this morning, no idea why! Perhaps they read about June Buggie 😀
Posted by shacklefordlb | April 11, 2012, 3:07 AMWhat? Ya mean they aren’t excited about me???? That darn cat gets ALL my press!
Posted by rumpydog | April 11, 2012, 6:04 AMYou’re (were) a street dog??? Can’t say that looking at you now 🙂 I’ve enjoyed going through this blog. We have 2 cats at home. We love dogs too - to have 4 dogs and 7 cats running around the house has been a dream (nightmare???). Unfortunately, they’ve not taken too kindly to having to share attention with other dogs or cats whenever we’ve brought friends’ puppies ot kittens home. It’s good to see you guys don’t seem to have any such problem

Posted by rumpydog | April 17, 2012, 5:25 PMhi there! i know i haven’t commented much, but i do follow your blog and i find your stories wonderful. i know you are no stranger to this Award, but I want to nominate you regardless of how many awards you may already have. hopefully, i can contribute even more traffic to your site.
please visit http://loungelassie.wordpress.com for the rules, if you are so inclined. i really don’t think you need to do this again. i mean, not unless you want to. if i could, i would give you an award without any rules.
best,
Madeleine and Gingersnap! (the dogs)
and Linda (Mama L.)
Posted by loungelassie | April 19, 2012, 1:23 AMOh Dog! Thank you!!!
Posted by rumpydog | April 19, 2012, 7:06 PMRumpy, have you ever taken the time to count how many of each award you have received. THAT would be interesting!
Posted by Sandra Bell Kirchman | April 19, 2012, 3:15 PMNo I haven’t! I know I should return the favor to my friends. Hopefully I’ll he to it one day. 😦
Posted by rumpydog | April 19, 2012, 6:56 PMOh, I didn’t mean anything that time-consuming. I just meant counting all the awards you’d received and how many of each award. I just thought it would be interesting. From what I’ve seen, if you tried to follow each award’s instructions, you would not have time for anything else. I think everyone knows that’s just not possible and they understand. I do, and I was one of your award givers. 🙂

Posted by robpixaday | May 12, 2012, 5:05 PMRumpydog looks a wee bit like my very 1st dog (a Siberian Husky)… maybe related? http://wp.me/pXX8J-5z Thanks for stopping by my blog.
Posted by Gunta | May 15, 2012, 9:20 PMRumpy, I’m counting on you to be a good influence on the Misses Kotte. Little Miss Kotte will listen attentively to all you have to say, but will probably want to talk it over with Podi the Cat and her sister Maggie - and it’s Maggie who’s the problem. She thinks she’s a human and I just can’t get it into her head that it’s much cooler to be a dog, but she just won’t understand. I’m sure you’ll be able to sort her out, if only you’d spend a little time with her.
Posted by The Wanderlust Gene | May 20, 2012, 2:02 AMOh I dunno Maggie…. what’s fun about being a human? Ya gotta to go work and all that other boring stuff! Pffffftttt!
Posted by rumpydog | May 20, 2012, 7:23 AMNo, no, my human is a retired person and she seems to do just whatever it is she likes, and I don’t see why I can’t have a King Size bed of my own like her, or my own sofa, so I can stretch out so I’m as long as her … She’s always telling me what to do, I don’t see why we always have to do what she wants, though I gladly go along with the lead, because that means an excursion out into the glorious smells of the road …
Posted by The Wanderlust Gene | May 20, 2012, 7:52 AMyour own bed? I though I would like my own bed, but how can I protect Jen from another room? Just keep doing what you’re doing.

Posted by Sirenia | September 5, 2012, 5:57 AMHi Rumpy & family
I’ve accepted the ‘One Lovely Blogger Award’ and included you in my list of Bloggers to check out. You can read it here:
http://boomdeeadda.wordpress.com/2012/09/21/one-lovely-blog-award/
(no pressure, just wanted to acknowledge how much I enjoy your posts-Boomdee)
Posted by Boomdeeadda | September 21, 2012, 8:27 AMWOW! I swear Rumpy you could be my doppelganger. I actually had to do a double-take - TWICE! When I have more time I’ll have to go exploring through more of your posts. Glad to know I’m not the only Malamute in the eastern states (I live in South Carolina). as long as my humans have air conditioning and cool shade in the grass, and tile floor by the door, I’m good.
I do have to live with not just two cats, but three. THREE! That’s just indogane if you ask me. And I also have a younger sister, she’s a German Sheppard. She’s OK, but she gets nippy sometimes and just doesn’t know when to stop. I try to be patient with her, but there are some days when I just don’t want my paws touched.

May you continue to spread your inspiration, Love and Light around the world.. Love and Blessings.. Sue xx
Posted by Sue Dreamwalker | June 9, 2014, 2:34 PMIt’s so hard to imagine no one wanting to claim Rumpy. We have a dog in this apartment complex, also a malamute (or maybe a malamute husky mix) who was also wandering around until the guy who lives here rescued him. He hinted he may move soon and have to find a new home for M, and I have been dropping mad hints that we will gladly take him in! Haha.
I wanted to stop by and let you know about another blog I write for. I am associated with Blessing’s Unleashed, a foundation to train rescue dogs to be service animals for autistic children. Considering your involvement in rescue, thought I’d mention it to you. Here’s the newsletter/blog: blessingsunleashednews.wordpress.com

Posted by alienredqueen | August 5, 2014, 8:41 PMJenny (and Rumpy and June Buggie!), you’ve got a really fantastic blog here. I spent some time reading it before work yesterday and it really resonated with me. I admire your courage to speak out for animal welfare and your honesty about how you feel.
I’ll admit that I set out with a similar mindset to you, I thought if I could lure readers to my site with striking photographs and amazing facts that I could make them see animals the way I see them and in doing so, they would begin to love and care about wildlife the way I do. Reading your blog has motivated me to write more about the important issues, whether it’s what people want to hear or not, because as you said “with enough of us somebodies calling for positive action, change will come”. Thank you for the inspiration, keep up the great work!
Posted by Alex Walsh | August 29, 2014, 2:26 AMThanks, Alex! It takes all of us working together to bring about a change in thinking about animals.

Posted by Alex Walsh | August 30, 2014, 3:08 PMHi Rumpy. Thank you for coming by to read my blog. I’m just starting out, but being just a little puppy, I guess my blog’s not too bad if someone with as many good stories as you have came by. I’ll be back to have my human read me some more of your adventures.
Posted by Penny Layne | October 12, 2014, 6:45 PMHi, I am Trigger, a guide dog owned by author Kevin Morris. Well he thinks he owns me, however it is we dogs who own our humans, don’t you agree? I work hard guiding Kevin through the street of London however I must confess to being something of a scavenger (if there is food in the vicinity I will try to get it, those 3 day old burgers on the pavement are very tasty …)!

Posted by Susan Langer | April 28, 2017, 12:21 PMgood morning, my name is Tess Peavy,
I am a spay neuter veterinarian and I am trying to get affordable spay neuter for ALL animals in the Augusta area.
I am having trouble getting the word out about our monthly veterinary clinic events. WE offer affordable care for anyone that wants to help an animal. Specifically we are EXCELLENT at addressing the feral pet problem. IF you would like to find out more about what we are doing please give me a call. 707-599-1553 I grew up in Augusta and spent countless days volunteering at the local shelters as a child. I wanted so much to do something to really help the animals, and now I can! I have altered over 200,000 animals all over the US and abroad. I believe the only way to truly change the probelm in Augusta is to make care an option. Too many people can never even think about going to the veterinarian. I want to change that. Veterinary Medicine is a public service industry and we truly take that to heart.
Below is information about us:
Public Vet
Our Goals
As a nonprofit veterinary service organization, Public Vet seeks to help all animals by promoting healthy animal companionships and well managed domestic animal populations. Within our means, we seek to assist any community that asks for help regardless of their financial situation.
An Investment in Our Work
Public Vet was honored to receive a $20,000
investment from the Petco Foundation to help
extend our efforts and serve the Petco
Foundation’s mission to raise the quality of life for pets and people who love and need them. In addition to private and locally made donations Public Vet will use this generous grant to help lower the cost of our spay/neuter services in
America.
Healthy Animal Companionship
What does this mean?
Animals in and around our homes may pose a risk
to us and our children. Zoonotic diseases are diseases that can infect humans as well as other animals. Some are spread by fleas and other parasites. Pet owners are at increased risk of exposure to these parasites and their diseases. Many pathogens known to affect humans are zoonotic. Public Vet raises awareness of zoonotic disease and collects data to improve the health of people and their animals.
Bartonella sp. Is a significant cause of disease in humans.
How Public Vet Can Help
We provide affordable life saving spay neuter services and veterinary care for all animals. Our clinics are intended to educate and network the communities we serve. Pet overpopulation results
in unmentionable suffering. It is a problem created by our communities and it requires the cooperation
of our entire community to solve it. Everyone must work together to stop more unwanted pets and care for the ones that are born. Together we can do it.
Public Vet is here to help!
Public Pets Program
Beyond Our Homes
In addition to meeting the needs of pets and their owners, Public Vet strives to help all animals, Public Pets are unowned animals that live in our towns. These animals exist because they have food but no owner to help when they need vet care. We can work with individuals, animal groups, and government organizations to to identify and assess the needs of these animals and devise a plan to best manage the public pets.
Trap - Neuter - Manage (TNM)
Abandoned and feral animals are the result of poor pet ownership practices. Our Public Pet Program provides life saving medical care and monitoring to all public pets. Clients using this program are considered guardians and all Public Pets are registered to the client as owner and Public Vet as the veterinarian of record. All animals are clearly tattooed and microchipped. Public Vet maintains the permanent medical record for the life of the animal. This affords the shelter a means of dealing with these public pets instead of euthanasia.
Posted by tesspeavy, D.V.M. | October 1, 2017, 12:41 PMHello, I would suggest you contact an established spay/neuter clinic for advice. When I lived in Bay County, Florida, their clinic started out small and is now planning a move into a larger building. They’re called Operation Spay Bay. Here’s a link to their Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/operationspaybay/
