Organic Chicken? It’s Not Necessarily Humane.

One of the requirements for meat being certified organic is that, where possible, the animals are raised in a humane manner. But if you’re buying organic chicken expecting that bird to have been raised humanely, you are sorely mistaken. In the Center for Food Safety’s recently released whitepaper, the agency slams the United States Dept of … Continue reading

The Best News I Heard All Week!

This week’s news comes from none other than the business world! What? REALLY???? Yes indeedy! See, the Humane Society sat down with companies and asked them to agree to buy meat obtained from humane sources, including pork. So companies pressured their pork suppliers to move toward eliminating the use of gestational crates. What are gestational … Continue reading

Scents and Sensibility

Today I wrote a poem about dogs and our noses. WHAT? Why would you write a poem about THAT? Because our sense of smell is SO COOL! Did you know scientists have proven the sense of smell for dogs is AT LEAST ten thousand times more acute than it is for humans? And it may … Continue reading

Wednesday Words in Pictures- Bubba the Odd Duck!

Bubba has always been sort of an odd duck. He likes to drink fresh water from the water bowl. When Jen puts the fresh water down, he’ll kick it out of the bowl onto the tray.   He likes to stand in the water.     And then he’ll lick it off his feet.   … Continue reading

The Best News I Heard All Week!

Oh Dog! Happy Sunday everybody! Do I have some great news for you this week! Actually, I have TWO great news stories to share! First up, we head to China, where The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress has approved an interpretation of China’s Criminal Law making it now illegal to eat the meat of … Continue reading

Who Do YOU Stand For? I Stand For the Animals.

You may not know this, but my paying gig is Child Protective Investigator. When someone calls in a report to the Child Abuse Hotline, I’m the one that goes out to check on the child(ren) to see if they’re safe. You may see me at your door any hour of the day or night, including … Continue reading

Yet Another “Rescuer” Busted for Hoarding/ Animal Cruelty

She is what authorities call a “serial animal rescuer.” She is Gisela Tacao, and she ran Gigi’s Rescue in the Miami area. Tacao would get animals from other rescue groups that pulled the animals from animal control in Miami. But Tacao didn’t adopt those animals out. No, she kept them in deplorable conditions in a warehouse in Hialeah. In … Continue reading

The Latest on Bubba

Bubba has now had 5 Adequan shots. How is he doing?   This was taken this morning. Bubba comes out with the rest of the gang at meal time, and actually eats some with the community. He then retires to Jen’s bedroom where he’s fed separately from the others to ensure he’s not stressed and getting … Continue reading

A Sad Day in Animal Welfare

Saturday was a sad day for the animals of Tampa, Florida. The staff at the Animal Coalition of Tampa Bay were wakened early last Saturday to learn their low-cost spay/neuter and vaccination clinic had burned. The fire was intentionally set, possibly to cover the theft of petty cash from the register as well as from a … Continue reading

Rumpy Dog

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.
