Pet Moose? Wildlife Should Remain Wild!

It seems that there’s a problem with people in Alaska wanting to touch baby moose- and even wanting to keep them as pets!   According to the Associated Press, there have been a string of incidents involving people in Alaska trying to do just that. Persons in Willow had a baby moose in their back yard in a … Continue reading

The Best News I Heard All Week!

This week we’re travelling to India for some good news! Tamil Nadu is an Indian state known for its Jallikattu-bullfights, where men wrestle bulls to win prizes tied to the bull’s horns. India has argued for years that it’s not inhumane because the bulls don’t necessarily die, though many bulls and humans are killed during the so-called festivities. … Continue reading

If Only I Had No Soul

Have you ever wished you were a sociopath?   I gotta be honest: I have. I mean, how can it be that I carry around guilt for everything I’ve ever done, while there are people in this world who worry about nothing! What a sweet life! I could take any job out there and not worry if I’m … Continue reading

The Best News I Heard All Week!

This week’s news comes from none other than the business world! What? REALLY???? Yes indeedy! See, the Humane Society sat down with companies and asked them to agree to buy meat obtained from humane sources, including pork. So companies pressured their pork suppliers to move toward eliminating the use of gestational crates. What are gestational … Continue reading

The Best News I Heard All Week!

Oh Dog! Happy Sunday everybody! Do I have some great news for you this week! Actually, I have TWO great news stories to share! First up, we head to China, where The Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress has approved an interpretation of China’s Criminal Law making it now illegal to eat the meat of … Continue reading

An #Animal By Any Other Name…..

I have found that the longer I write this blog, the more I tend to focus on one particular species of animal- humans.   If you stop looking at us as unique and see humans as just another kind of animal, it gives an entirely different view of the world. We are an invasive species that has … Continue reading

A Sense of Entitlement

Recently I read a blog post about lunch thieves written by Yuki Noguchi and posted on the NPR website. She asked manners consultant Jeanne Hamilton why people steal their co-workers’ lunches. The answer? Because of a sense of entitlement. A sense of entitlement. It’s the excuse we use for all sorts of bad behavior. It’s … Continue reading

What To Do About All Those Cats?

For years the war has raged on. On one side, those who love cats, and want to help those who are homeless have a better quality of life.   On the other side is a coalition of wildlife enthusiasts and animal abolitionists. And what are they fighting about? What to do about the estimated 50 … Continue reading

Fake Service Dogs? Yep, it’s a HUGE Problem.

Fake service dogs? Are you kidding me? Yes, indeedy! Seems that some dog owners are scamming the system by claiming their companion animal is a service dog. WHAT? Oh yeah, it’s easy! You just say your dog is a service animal, and businesses cannot then deny your dog entrance into their business. But surely dog … Continue reading

Do We Enable Hoarders?

There’s something that’s been bothering me for a long time, but I haven’t been sure how to address it. I think the animal welfare community enables hoarders. The Animal Legal Defense Fund states that hoarding is the number one animal cruelty crisis facing companion animals in the US. And it’s also a crisis in other … Continue reading

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.
