Pet Moose? Wildlife Should Remain Wild!

It seems that there’s a problem with people in Alaska wanting to touch baby moose- and even wanting to keep them as pets!   According to the Associated Press, there have been a string of incidents involving people in Alaska trying to do just that. Persons in Willow had a baby moose in their back yard in a … Continue reading

The Gifts Companion Animals Bring #DVPAW2014

Last week was Dog Vacay’s Pet Appreciation Week. I wanted to write about what it means to me to share my home with companion animals, but I couldn’t quite put into words what I wanted to say.   But yesterday, when Rumpy and I were out in the yard, I noticed a ripe apple on the … Continue reading

Black Cats Crossing Your Path!

I have a difficult time getting good photos of the black cats. The lighting in this home is not ideal, and with Little Girl, good luck getting her to stand still long enough to get a decent shot. But recently I got a good one of each of them, so I thought I’d share them … Continue reading

I Can’t Save a World that Won’t Be Saved

I sat in the hallways of a courthouse recently waiting for my turn to testify in a custody case. You might be surprised to learn that, as a Child Protective Investigator, I am far more likely to have to testify in a custody dispute than in a criminal trial. As I listened to the families in … Continue reading

An Exciting Opportunity- Maybe!

The Humane Society of the United States Taking Action for Animals Conference will be held June 27-30th. I received an invitation to attend, courtesy of HSUS. I’d love to do that, but there’s still the matter of getting there, accommodations, and, most importantly, making sure the gang are cared for while I’m gone. So if … Continue reading

Scenes From Our Garden, Otherwise Known as the Back Yard

Bonsai Bonanza!

Yesterday I had to work. You see, when an investigator is assigned a report, we must make contact with the victims within 24 hours. If we don’t, we must make a daily attempt to see them until we do make contact or until it becomes obvious they aren’t to be found. So I spent my … Continue reading

I Got Treats Yesterday!

I got some treats to celebrate my 1000th post yesterday, and June Buggie wasn’t happy about it!!!

Saturday Tidbits and a Milestone!

This morning I grabbed one of the ointments I’m applying to kitty eyes, and noticed the container said For Use in Dogs Only. I freaked. Did the vet give me the wrong medication?   Well, seems that there’s several meds used in cats off-label, meaning they’ve been shown to be effective in cats but the … Continue reading

Blessing in Disguise????

Rumpy has a Facebook page. And until yesterday, he also had a profile. But not anymore.   Seems Facebook looks unfavorably on those who would pretend to be a dog or cat. Friends of Rumpy’s were deleted and watched like a hawk to ensure they do not return. It’s pathetic to what lengths they’ll go to … Continue reading

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.
