Kuruk: The Little Bear That Could

Are you a follower of Haiku By Ku? Kuruk is an Alaskan Malamute like me. He writes haiku! And, also like me, he lives with kitties! Ku was rescued in 2011 as a part of a puppy mill bust in Alaska, and he traveled 3000 miles to be with his mama. He and his mama wrote … Continue reading

The Gifts Companion Animals Bring #DVPAW2014

Last week was Dog Vacay’s Pet Appreciation Week. I wanted to write about what it means to me to share my home with companion animals, but I couldn’t quite put into words what I wanted to say.   But yesterday, when Rumpy and I were out in the yard, I noticed a ripe apple on the … Continue reading

I Got Treats Yesterday!

I got some treats to celebrate my 1000th post yesterday, and June Buggie wasn’t happy about it!!!

Saturday Tidbits and a Milestone!

This morning I grabbed one of the ointments I’m applying to kitty eyes, and noticed the container said For Use in Dogs Only. I freaked. Did the vet give me the wrong medication?   Well, seems that there’s several meds used in cats off-label, meaning they’ve been shown to be effective in cats but the … Continue reading

Blessing in Disguise????

Rumpy has a Facebook page. And until yesterday, he also had a profile. But not anymore.   Seems Facebook looks unfavorably on those who would pretend to be a dog or cat. Friends of Rumpy’s were deleted and watched like a hawk to ensure they do not return. It’s pathetic to what lengths they’ll go to … Continue reading

Another Swipe of the Paw

This week’s poetry offering comes in the form of a song. But not just any song, mind you! This week it’s a parody of one of my all-time favorites bands- Pink Floyd! Do you recall this song? . Well here’s my take on it. I call it: . Another Swipe of the Paw . We … Continue reading

Puppy Mill Imports? Yep, They’re STILL Coming!

In 2008, Congress passed a law that prevented puppies ages 6 months and younger from being imported into the US. Why? Because there was no oversight of the way the puppies were bred or raised. Many were sick. They were inbred, meaning the likelihood of genetic abnormality was strong. Besides, why in the world would … Continue reading

Scents and Sensibility

Today I wrote a poem about dogs and our noses. WHAT? Why would you write a poem about THAT? Because our sense of smell is SO COOL! Did you know scientists have proven the sense of smell for dogs is AT LEAST ten thousand times more acute than it is for humans? And it may … Continue reading

Saturday Morning Sports Center!

Oh Dog! Happy Saturday! We have a game here at the Rumpydog household every weekend- see how early we can wake Jen up to feed us! It’s so much fun….. well, not for Jen. But the rest of us have a blast! In fact, it’s so much fun, I wrote a poem about it. I … Continue reading

All About Me!

Hi! My name is Rumpy, and I am an Alaskan Malamute. I used to live in Middle Tennessee, but now my family and I reside in southeast Alabama. I have this cool blog that I started in 2011. Here at rumpydog.com we talk about all things animal, with a focus on animal welfare and responsible animal companion guardianship. But we also like to throw in a heaping helping of cute! cute! cute! I mean, how could you look at me and not melt, right?

My story? Well, I was found on the side of a busy street. Jenny thought she would help me find my home, but nobody claimed me. So now I live with her. She's a pretty good ole' gal, but she is mighty stingy with the dog cookies. *sigh*

There are also some cats- they each have their own story. June Buggie is their chief spokesperson. He is 16 years old, crotchety, and not afraid to say what's on his mind.

All writings and photos are the copyright property of Jenny Threet (unless the writer is a guest blogger, in which case it is the property of that guest blogger) and may not be used without permission.
