.
Friday has come. Hooray!
It’s this week’s last work day.
Let’s hope it goes fast,
so you’re all home at last.
There’s dogs and cats waiting to play!
.
Well nothing like working on a post for naught.
Oh well.
Anyway, here’s a poem I wrote yesterday.
Hope it will do for today.
.
.
There was a dog left home alone
With not even so much as a bone
He checked all around
For a treat to scarf down
But was heartbroken when he found none.
.
Today we observe Memorial Day here in the US. The day is set aside to honor those who died in service to our country.
Just my opinion, but I think a fair measure of how we honor our fallen heroes is by how we treat those heroes who still are with us. Today I share two poems I wrote about our vets.
Old send young to fight. Mothers bury their children. The rest go shopping. .
.
Actions Speak Louder Than Words
Coming home from war, vets find more stress awaits. The suicide rates are high. Why? Homelessness (please find a job) Unemployment (please get some help) Mental Illness (please apply for assistance). Long waits for benefits, courtesy of the government. But hey, here’s a free coffee. Thanks for defending democracy!.
.
Do you have a Memorial Day poem you’d like to share?
Oh Dog! It’s been awhile since we shared some poetry. We gotta fix that!
Are you ready for an Autumn Poetry Challenge?
Here’s my poem:
Fall on the Florida coast. They’re freezing up north while we roast. Still green on the trees, but the native folk freeze. Oh it’s cold weather I miss the most! It’s your turn! I can’t wait to read your poems!
Autumn’s in the air,
leaves are turning brown.
Squirrels are gathering nuts.
birds are heading down
to now-warm southern countries.
Bears will soon be sleeping.
Days are getting shorter.
Cold air comes a’ creeping.
But happy is the dog
that smells fall in the air.
Our coats are thick and warm.
We run without a care.
The smells are fresh and new!
We chase squirrels up the trees.
We smile, those crisp, cool mornings,
and jump in piles of leaves.
Welcome cooler mornings!
Welcome cooler days!
Summer’s finally over,
and Arctic Dogs say YAY!!!
Oh Dog! While we recover from our forced incarceration, I thought I’d share with you another one of my previous posts.
Today I thought I’d remind ya of just how cool I really am….. not that I thought you’d forgotten.
Oh Dog! Things are kinda hectic around here!
So while we’re working hard, how about your check out this blast from the past and find out what like would be like If Humans were Like Dogs.

And if you want to find out how to prevent the barrage of emails (for wordpress bloggers), Titabuds has the answer!
Oh Dog! It’s time for our latest Poetry Challenge! I’m so excited!
.
.
I’ve been working really hard on my haiku, so I hope you like them!
.
Spring has sprung, bringing
The miracle of new life.
And lots of sneezes!
.
And because I just HAD to write about my favorite thing-
.
I want a cookie.
Why won’t you just give me one?
Let’s live in the now!
.
One more, and because I want to give equal exposure to kitties-
.
June Buggie’s evil!
Why don’t people believe me?
Cats have all the luck!
.
OK you guys! It’s YOUR TURN!

Oh Dog! It’s been SOOOOOO long since we last had a poetry challenge and we are WAYYYYY past due!
So listen up you dogs and cats (and humans too!)- this Friday we’re gonna throw down with some haiku! Are YOU up to the challenge?
Now remember, there are several different form of haiku. The most common to those of us who are not poetry geeks is the standard 3 lines, 5-7-5 form. It goes something like this:
.
If you want true love,
stop looking for it. Instead,
go adopt a dog.
.
Now I never claimed to write GOOD haiku, and that’s not what our Poetry Challenge is all about. I don’t impose rules here…. well, except you need to keep it nice (it is my blog and I will delete anything I deem offensive or rude). So if you’re anal about making sure it’s “Right,” you’re probably not gonna like what we got to say.
Well? What are you waiting for? Get to work! Write a haiku…or a limerick…. or any kinda poem you want. Then come back Friday and post it in the comments, and let the rest of us ooh and ahhhh over your creative genius!
I can’t wait! I’m so excited, I better go outside! woo woo woo!
And an update to the WordPress dilemma: Thanks To Tita Buds, I have now changed my settings so you will NOT get emails about subsequent comments UNLESS you check the box saying you want to. If you’re a WordPress blogger and you want to know how to change YOUR settings, check out Tita Buds’ post about how to change your settings.
