Uh oh! Monday’s back!
Monday is meaner than June Buggie on catnip.
Jen had a flat tire while on a call out yesterday, so she has to head out early to get some new ones. Ugh!
How would you describe Monday?
Oh Dog! DeDe here! Each Sunday we offer beauty tips to look and feel your best. This week I’m going to share with you a way you can feel good on the inside while helping puppies! How cool is that!
Today is the third year the ASPCA is promoting No Pet Store Puppies Day! When you support businesses that sell puppies, you are, in effect, supporting puppy mills. The ASPCA and I would like each of you to pledge to not shop at pet stores that sell puppies.
Here’s the official ASPCA spokesperson Molly who can tell you more about it (Spoiler: Molly is simply adorable!)
.
.
Want to see where your USDA licensed puppymill puppy came from? You can track USDA licensed breeders and where stores buy their puppies here.
Surprised? Then take the pledge to not shop at stores that sell puppies!
.
Now, on to the giveaway! The ASPCA has provided a prize pack that includes a “I Love My Shelter Dog” jumbo tote, an ASPCA orange wristband, a keychain flashlight, an ASPCA logo magnet, Rachel Ray Naturally Delish dog treats, Walkers Shortbread Scottish Dog Cookies (for humans), and popchips!! Ther’s something for everyone in there!
To win, simply go take the pledge to not shop at stores that sell puppies, then comment below that you did so. Sorry, but the contest is only open to residents of the US. Entries accepted through midnight Monday, July 22nd. (Central Standard time).
Thanks for entering, and thanks for helping puppies!

And please vote today and every day for your favorite finalists in the Petties Awards from Dogtime. I’m voting for Animal Shelter Volunteer for Best Cause Blog and The Creative Cat for Best Cat Blog.
Well nothing like working on a post for naught.
Oh well.
Anyway, here’s a poem I wrote yesterday.
Hope it will do for today.
.
.
There was a dog left home alone
With not even so much as a bone
He checked all around
For a treat to scarf down
But was heartbroken when he found none.

Oh Dog! It’s hot outside! Here in southern Alabama it’s been rainy, hot and humid. We’ve been staying inside where it’s cool.
Don’t forget to vote today and every day for your favorite blogs among the Dogtime Petties Awards finalists. I am publicly supporting Animal Shelter Volunteer for Best Cause Blog and The Creative Cat for Best Cat Blog. Thanks!
Oh Dog! DeDe here.
Today I have an important tip for all of you. Beauty is NOT synonymous with self-worth.
In 2013, young girls are still being conditioned to view their worth by their beauty.
And why not? Beautiful people tend to make higher salaries. They are less likely to be found guilty in a court of law.
And like attracts like. A study of friendships among women found that many of you choose friendships based on similar attractiveness.
Last year, CNN did a series on how we see beauty, and they found that babies respond more to symmetrical faces, those that we consider beautiful. We also know that those with asymmetrical faces are more likely to come from “difficult or deprived” backgrounds.
In other words, those who are beautiful are more likely to have easier lives, and those people tend to stick together.
But is beauty synonymous with worth?
That is a choice you have to make. If you only value people you find to be physically attractive, then you are missing out on a vast array of interesting people, both male and female.
If you see your own worth as based on your beauty, then you must know your worth will only continue to fade.
Perhaps it’s time to find another way to determine how humans value one another, particularly women.
With every move comes change. Some change is planned, while others are unexpected.
I had planned to change the way I feed the cats to address the weight gain with some of them, like Malachi. Instead of leaving a feeder out for each cat to enjoy at his or her leisure, they’re now being fed twice a day, the same as the dogs. There is a downside, though. The cats start fussing to be fed long before I’m ready to get up. I think I may be getting up earlier for a while…. at least until they get used to the routine.
But the most pleasant, unexpected change also happened. Bubba Cat has stopped isolating himself! He had been spending all his time in my bedroom.
He is still not getting along well with Graybow, so I have work to do in that area. But at least he’s out among the rest of us. YAY!
Happy Friday everybody!
We were unable to post yesterday because our FORMER Internet service provider were unable to connect our service. Oh they SAID they could to get us to stay with them, but when it came time to actually deliver the service, there were many reasons why we had to wait… and wait…. and wait…..
Instead, Jen called Comcast, and in less than 24 hours we were up and running. YAY!
While we continue to work on getting settled, we thought we’d share a few more pics from the new place.’
This mockingbird has let us know in no uncertain terms that SHE (or he) rules the back yard! That bird loves to fuss at the cats.
Have a great weekend! And please vote for The Creative Cat for Best Cat Blog and Animal Shelter Volunteer for Best Cause Blog in the Dogtime Petties Awards! You can vote once per day through the end of the month.

Uh oh! It’s Monday again! And many of you are on vacation this week and are not the least bit sympathetic to my plight.
Jen is sore from all the physical labor of the weekend, and she still has to get June Buggie to take his medicine.
So for those not working today, here’s some cute to lull you into your vacation.
And for the rest of us who aren’t on holiday, a dose of cute to help you on your way.
So many things that could be said.
So many ideas rolling around inside my brain.
But I can’t think, because something’s wrong with June Buggie.
He didn’t try to run outdoors with the dogs like he usually does. When we came back inside, I found him still in the bedroom.
And then I saw the dried blood on his tail.
He won’t let me touch it, even to clean. I did manage to get a bit of ointment on it, but he howled when I did that much. I’m thinking an abscess that’s burst. But we won’t know until the wound’s been cleaned and examined.
Well, nothing to be done but arrange a trip to the vet.
Oh, it tears me up to see June Buggie like that.
